Rusty was larger than life and never met a stranger. He lived life to the fullest and his generosity, compassion, humor, showmanship and his ability to tell an absolutely captivating story will be missed by all that knew him. Rusty was always a competitor, whether it was advocating on behalf of his clients, friends or family or during the more than twenty years of competitive sports played by his kids. Rusty was a history buff and had a passion for reading. He also shared his passion of the outdoors with many of his friends. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, spending most of his life chasing fish across the Gulf of Mexico or waterfowl across the prairies of Texas. Sunrise on the open water or prairie were always moments he cherished.
Rusty was devoted to his family and friends. We will all miss our husband, dad, brother, uncle, cousin and our good friend, Rusty. He is looking down upon us all with that enduring smile and belly laugh with a cocktail and cigar in hand.
Our two families have been friends for over 30 years. Rusty was always so enjoyable to be around. He was always there to help anyone in anyway! Our love and prayers are with his family. May all the treasured memories and the love of family, friends, and our saving Lord bring them peace and comfort. We love you all…. Ed, Janet, E.J. & Annie, and Angie & Curtis (Penn), Malek
So saddened to hear of Rusty’s passing. He was so charismatic and always brightened everyone’s day! He was a lot like his Dad, Uncle Winnie, living each day to the fullest.
Stephanie, my prayers are with you and the kids. May God give you all strength in this difficult time.

I am extremely heartbroken by the death of our charming cousin “Rusty”. I have numerous fond memories of him from my childhood and as an adult. Rusty’s laugh and smile were contagious. It seems as though he never met a stranger. You will be missed by all. I have no doubt C.G, Uncle Winnie, Uncle Roland, and my dad Camille are all having a drink and smoking a cigar. Our prayers are with you Stephanie and the whole family at this time of sadness. Will All My Love, Peggy
We are truly sorry for the loss of Rusty. Rusty was Bonnie’s 1st match date at UT. Later Hamp became friends with Rusty through the KA’s. We were good friends in College. I had the good fortune of Rusty talking me to join him in the Army Reserves. We were the last 2 accepted and served Training together. He probably saved our lives. We will certainly miss his shining spirit. Hamp and Bonnie Beesley
I am very sorry to hear about Rusty’s death. I will pray for him and all of you. May God lift you up in this time of sorrow.
My deepest condolences Stephanie to you and the family. Rusty was larger than life and had the biggest heart! He will be missed by all! Love & prayers to all of the Verkin family.
The last time I saw Rusty was at a volleyball game in Galveston. It had to be 50 years ago. I don’t know how I got wrangled into the game, as I wasn’t an attorney – but I had hired a few to get me out’a jams. Ted Mora was there with some of our other classmate attornies. I just remember Rusty’s big ol’ grin and hearty laugh. He was a competitor. He may be gone, but his memory lives with me.
Rusty was one of a kind! An unforgettable character, always ready to laugh, kind, and willing to help! The last memories I have of him were shared drives back home to LaMarque from UT on occasions …in the 60’s of course! Haven’t seen him since then but nice to hear about his family…he will be missed but we all have our memories of his full of life personality!
We were so very sorry to hear of the loss of Rusty. He was always full of laughter and jokes. He reminded me so much of his Dad-Uncle Winnie. Our prayers and thoughts go out to you Stephanie and the rest of the family. May faith guide you in the days ahead. Rusty will never leaves us he always be with us in our heart and memories.
So sorry to hear about Rusty. We spent much time together at UT. Rusty was always
in a big jovial smiling mood as pictured above. We happened to share a room together at our fraternity house during our sophomore year. Barely had enough room
for his huge body, my wimpy body, and the cigar smoke (mostly his). Time spent
with Rusty got me into dental school but kept me out of medical school.
My condolences to all his family and friends.

Dearest Margie Cindy, just learned of Rusty’s passing. Sending love and deepest condolences from Carol & Muriel Kearby
Edyie and I were lucky to have known Rusty. We were fortunate for every moment we had, and every laugh we shared. He was a good mentor in many ways. I trust that God’s love will provide all of us missing Rusty, but especially his family, some measure of relief.
Awakened this AM thinking of Rusty. I did not know of his passing until I found this site. Tried to contact him several years ago, but unsuccessfully. Rusty was my friend and roommate at UT. Will remember the great times we had.
