Walter “Walt” Porter Little

Walter “Walt” Porter Little was born June 28, 1931, in Osceola, Arkansas. As a young man, Walt moved to Savannah, Georgia where he met his wife, Betty Ann Cook. He joined the Navy in 1953 and served on the USS Yorktown until his honorable discharge in 1955. He then joined the Air Force Reserve where he would become an expert in electronics and radar technology, leading to a career as a Tech Rep with Philco Corporation, which later became Ford Aerospace. This job brought Walt and his family to League City, Texas in 1964 to work for NASA, where he worked in the Mission Control Building 30.

Walt dabbled in many side projects including shrimping, HVAC and auto A/C repair with his boys, Steve, Ronny, and Gary. He started Little Cooling Company which would later become Little Automotive. Walt passed away peacefully on December 19, 2021. He is preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Betty Ann Cook, parents Porter and Eliza, and his siblings. Walt is survived by his sons Steve (Laura), Ronny (Terri) and Gary (Monica). He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Walt was a legendary storyteller, and he will be missed by many. The family would like to thank Terri Bergen and the Bayou Pines Care Center for their support and care.  The family will have a Visitation from 1-2 pm on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at Crowder Funeral Home in League City, TX.

  1. Dad, you taught us so much about how and what to in about any situation except this one. We will get through this with the help of our family and loved ones. As much as we complained about all the things you made us do in our younger years, those are some of the greatest adventures and stories. I love you and miss you

  3. So sorry Steve, Ronny, and Gary for your loss. Dad’s are irreplaceable. Your father was an extremely handsome young man. I see where you all got your looks.

  4. Fairwell Uncle Walt…Im glad I took the time to thank you for all the time you gave me in some dark times when Mom & Dad died. I knew how much they meant to you and Aunt Ann, but you still took on some difficult tasks that I couldn’t manage. I could look back and see the unconditional love you shared.
Thanks for filling in for Dad when he was off in Vietnam and we lived with you all there in League City. Again you took me in as one of your boys and I filled the void of a boy turning into a young man. Thanks for the adventures we shared, fishing and playing little league baseball.
Yes we all picked at you for the often repeated stories….but I’m glad we got to hear them. Yours was an interesting life and career that I look back as part of the greatest generation. I’m forever grateful for the sacrifices you made to protect our freedoms and the national pride we have in our exploration of space and beyond.
Say hi to Mom & Dad and I’m sure you and Aunt Ann are with them again…the foursome reunited.

  5. I love you papa. I’ll miss you so much. I can’t believe that in this life I’ll never get another hug, another story. You were the greatest man I’ve ever known and I hope you’re happy, dancing with grandma somewhere in heaven.

  6. Steve, Gary and Ronnie,
You have been a wonderful example to your own children of how to live out the commandment to honor your mother and father. You respected their wishes, protected them and ensured they lived with dignity. As your mother and father rest, we wish comfort and rest for you, and the sure knowledge that you served your parents well.

    Love,

  8. My love to all of the Little family. You had a wonderful dad and mother. The lives they lived and their examples made each of you what you are today. I knew Ann first and met Walt through her. We shared many good times together and admired each other so much. God Blessed me to have them in my life.
I enjoyed the adventurous stories Walt told one after the other. I encouraged him to write them down for future generations to enjoy. He served our Country well and he has been thanked many times for his devotion to duty. We all are proud of him.
God’s Blessings to you as you recover from this great loss of your father. May God wrap His loving arms about you and comfort you.
Recovering from COVID 19, I will not be able to be with you but am with you in spirit. My love to each of you. Your parents were so proud of you. God Bless.
