Walter Dorn Obrist

Walter Dorn Obrist, 95, resident of Pearland, TX formerly of Pittsburgh, PA passed away on June 3, 2020 in Pearland.  Walter was born on August 16, 1924 in Yonkers, New York. He served his country in the U.S. Navy.  Walter was a professor that taught in many universities: Duke University, University of Pennsylvania and University of Pittsburgh.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jefferson and Mabel Obrist; and one brother, Paul Obrist.

Walter leaves behind his wife Barbara Uzzell; daughter, Amy Hoffman; and son, Ralph Obrist.

  1. Even though I’ve know Mr. Walter for a short time. I grew very fond of him. He had a great sense of humor, very friendly, and he was a good hearted person. He will be missed and I look forward to the time of the resurrection that is mentioned in the Bible .

  2. Walter was one of America’s truly great scientists and innovators. A pioneer and wonderful teacher. He will be sorely missed but he has left a massive legacy.

Walter’s legacy in the the application of Xe-133 in the clinical measurement of cerebral blood flow has provided a bedrock in our understanding of the response of the brain to traumatic brain injury and stroke. His work lives on despite his passing. I will always fondly remember our many interactions scientifically and personally.
