Vera Jean “Jeanie” McMahon
Vera Jean “Jeanie” McMahon passed away quietly in her sleep in the early hours of Wednesday, August 15. Her death is a shock to family and friends alike. Jeanie was born in Harper, Kansas on January 31, 1953, the daughter of Mildred L. (Benefiel) Gill and R. Douglas Gill. She graduated from Chaparral High School and received a Bachelor’s degree in business and accounting from Kansas State University.
As a youth, she was active in 4-H and held offices in the local 4-H club, winning various awards for her projects and leadership. When she was a senior in high school, she was named the Kansas Wheat Queen.
Jeanie’s early years on a farm included leadership in youth activities, attendance in church, and a respect and love for all living things. Her early life also instilled her with a strong faith that brought her comfort throughout her life while she lived in various parts of the Midwest, East Coast, and the South. She married Patrick T. McMahon on December 26, 1978. They have three children Megan, Gill, and Matthew.
Jeanie established herself as a bright, capable, and respected accountant with an exceptional work ethic as she worked for various companies in a number of industries over her lifetime.
She has most recently been active in the Clear Lake Presbyterian Church where she had developed a strong sense of community, faith, and friendship. She volunteered for multiple charities and support groups and participated in the Pampered Pink charity fundraiser annually.
Jeanie was a wonderfully complicated person – fiercely loving and supportive of her family and friends, a warm smile that was contagious, exceptionally type A but always willing to find a working solution, exceptionally intelligent and always willing to lend an ear while only very occasionally being judge-y, a sarcastic wit and an easy laugh, a finely tuned sense of the ridiculous, and always willing to use her adult voice to make her point.
Jeanie was a loving wife and mother. She was a devoted partner who loved her husband. She was willing to step in and help when needed and acted as a sounding board for her children as they grew into adults working in various industries. She always provided salient advice and unwavering support. Her friends found her to be a beautiful person who was consistently optimistic and cheerful. She was always up for chatting with her family and friends and enjoyed staying connected to people via Facebook.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Patrick, her three children Megan (Earl) Gardner, Gill (Emily ) McMahon, and Matthew (Brady) McMahon, her grandchildren Patrick and Ryan, her sisters Judy (Jim) Scudamore and Mary (Conrad) Tucker, numerous nieces and nephews, and friends all around the country. She is preceded in death by her grandparents Raymond and Goldie Benefiel and Scott and Vera Gill; parents Mildred and Douglas Gill; and sisters Ann Jeanette Gill, Nancy L. Mauldin, and Martha L. Roye.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Pampered Pink, a local breast cancer charity. Donations can be sent to Gloria Dei with Pampered Pink memorial in the memo. The church address is:

We are sad to hear of the passing of Jeanie. We know her and Patrick through the Carmeliters Senior group and think the world of them both.
May Jeanie rest in peace.
Jeanie was one of the kindest people I ever met. She was always smiling and never forgot to ask how you were doing. She will be missed dearly by everyone she came in contact with. No matter what was going on in her life, she was intetested in how you were doing. Our thoughts are with Pat and her family.
