Troy Marshall Stearman
June 17, 1963 – August 6, 2024
Troy Marshall Stearman passed away on August 6, 2024, at the age of 61. A lifelong bachelor diagnosed with rapidly progressing bulbar ALS, he moved to Seabrook, Texas, in May to spend his final days surrounded by the loving care of family and hospice.
Troy was born on Eglin Air Force Base, Florida, June 17, 1963. As part of a military family, he grew up in Washington state, South Carolina and Maryland before the family settled in Texas following his father’s retirement from the Air Force. From age 13, he made his home in Dallas.
On March 13, 1988, Troy dedicated himself to living clean and sober, sharing the message of recovery and hope with others whenever possible. Through his career in the relocation industry, he traveled to many parts of the U.S. He treasured every opportunity to gather with family and was always ready to reach out to wish a happy birthday and acknowledge special occasions. Over the years, he enjoyed a deep relationship with his maternal aunt, Marlyn Scott.
An avid football fan, Troy had a remarkable memory for stats and relished good-humored camaraderie with others when watching games. His hobbies included reading and learning through The Great Courses. Barnes & Noble became a favorite hangout, where he cheered on a group of chess players and explored a wide variety of interests. A self-taught artist, Troy moved on from his early period of pen and ink drawing in the 1990s, to study the classic works of M.C. Esher and other illusionist artists. He leaves behind a portfolio of original hand-drawn works which he loved to show others … now treasured by his family as his legacy.
Troy will be remembered for his tough exterior and tender heart, for his humor, focus, determination and independence. He loved animals and had a special place in his heart for the less fortunate, especially children. Those who took the time to listen deeply to Troy were touched by his intelligence, analytical thoughtfulness, and generosity of spirit. He was fiercely loyal to those who earned his trust. In the vulnerability of his final days, Troy shared a profound flow of love with family as they tended him and ultimately released him into the embrace of Jesus, for healing, transformation and everlasting peace.
Troy is survived by his mother, Constance Bovier; step-father, Peter Wolfe; sister, Kelly Bovier Stearman; step-brother Paul Wolfe and step-sister Andrea (Wolfe) Boulden and their families; uncle Robert and aunt Marlyn (Bovier) Scott; five cousins and many dear members of the extended family. Troy was preceded in death by his father, Robert Milton Stearman; uncle E.L. and aunt Carol (Bovier) Higgins; and other beloved ancestors whom we trust have welcomed him into eternity.
