Sharon Ann Connor
Sharon Ann Connor, 80, of Hitchcock, Texas, passed away peacefully at her residence on Saturday, March 15, 2025. Born on February 27, 1945, in Galveston, she was the daughter of Martin and Maxine Rygaard, Sr. Sharon was a cherished resident of Hitchcock for 75 years, having formerly lived in Galveston.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 ½ years, Renard Neal Connor, Jr.; her parents; her son-in-law, Larry Lopez; her sister and brother- in- law, Kay and Larkin Warren; and her brother and sister-in-law, Martin and Carol Rygaard.
Sharon is survived by her loving daughter, Renelle Lopez Jenkins and husband Anthony of Hitchcock; her two sons, Martin Connor of Hitchcock and David Connor and wife Sylvia of Pearland; her seven grandchildren: Chloe and Kyle Cook, Brett Connor, Roselyn Connor (Logan Holt), Adrienne Connor, Brandon Connor, Audrey and Ava Connor; as well as one great-grandchild, Olivia Rose Holt.
A devoted member of the Galveston County Church for over 50 years, Sharon touched the lives of many with her warmth and kindness. She was a Sunday school teacher who worked with the local children of Hitchcock and was also involved with vacation bible school. She was a prominent member of the PTA for years while her children were in school and was known to many as the “team mom” for her children’s sports organization.
Sharon, a friend too many, played sports for most of her life, starting in high school as a center for the girls’ basketball team and continuing to play in local women’s basketball leagues. She could be found bowling on most Tuesday nights along with her sister, Kay, and their mother, Maxine, with the local bowling league known as the “Tuesday Night Alley Cats.” When she wasn’t bowling, she was pitching for the adult women’s softball league of Hitchcock. On Wednesdays, one might hear Sharon yell “Bunco!” She was also well known for volunteering in the community, especially when baking was needed, not only feeding her family of five but also many in the community.
Of all of Sharon’s accomplishments, her true pride and joy was when she became Meme to her grandchildren and especially her great granddaughter Olivia and the many to come. Many holidays and Sunday lunches were not complete unless all of her grandchildren were present (no phones at the table).
She is also affectionately known as Aunt Sherry, She-She, Mrs. Connor, Raggie and honey bunny as per Neal Connor. Many might know these endearments not only came from her many nieces, nephews, and cousins but also from anybody that was a friend.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 am – 11:00 am on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at the Galveston County Church, 6601 FM 2004 in Hitchcock, with the Celebration of Life following at 11:00 am.
Memorial donations may be made to the Hitchcock Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 546, Hitchcock, TX 77563. Sharon will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, and her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends.

She will be truly missed. My dad was “Raggie’s” high school basketball coach. We had met when I was two weeks old. And our friendship remained. She was so much fun and I always, always laughed when I was around her. May she rest in peace. God speed.
She will always be in the hearts of anyone who ever knew her,she will be missed.

I read of a man who stood to speak At the funeral of a friend. He referred to the dates on the tombstone From the beginning…to the end
He noted that first came the date of birth And spoke the following date with tears, But he said what mattered most of all Was the dash between those years
For that dash represents all the time That they spent alive on earth. And now only those who loved them Know what that little line is worth
For it matters not, how much we own, The cars…the house…the cash. What matters is how we live and love And how we spend our dash.
A poem that provides comfort when a loved one passes… condolences for your loss.
Another one of the Greats has gone home to be with our Lord. So many memories growing up in our small town. She was always a light. My deepest condolences to her beautiful family.
