Severo “Sam” Longoria
Severo “Sam” Longoria
4/1/45 – 8/30/24
Beloved Husband, Father, Popo, and Friend. Born on April 1, 1945, in Odem, Texas to Ramon and Concepcion Longoria, he is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Dolores, whom he called “Chief,” a name that reflected their deep bond and mutual respect.
He is also survived by four daughters, two sons, three brothers, two sisters, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Sam will be remembered for his love of baseball, the Dallas Cowboys, and the University of Houston. Sam was a respectable role model and stern but loving dad who was dependable, supportive, and “Mr. Fix It.” He was also the watchful guardian of Early Turn Dr., looking out for everyone’s safety and well-being. Sam loved spending his time fishing, golfing, and boating, and he was rarely without a cigar to chew on, a signature habit that accompanied him on all his adventures. Sam dedicated 22 years as an IT Service Manager at the University of Houston, where he was also an active member of the Emergency Response Team. His leadership extended beyond his professional life as he served as the Vice President of the Mud 55 Water Board, a fourth-degree knight with the Knights of Colombus, and a committed team lead on the Rodeo Committee. Sam served as an usher at The Shrine of the True Cross and Mary Queen Catholic Church, and he was an active member in the ACTS retreat at Mary Queen. Though he will be deeply missed, Sam was always ready to lend a hand no matter the time or place. His generous spirit and unwavering willingness to help others defined his life and left a lasting impact on everyone he met.
There will be a visitation service Sunday, September 8th from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. with a vigil at 6:00 P.M. at Crowder Funeral Home, 2422 E. Broadway St. Pearland, TX 77581.

My deepest condolences to Mrs. Longoria and all the family. Sam was not only the person who hired me at UH 21 years ago, but also the first person who opened his home and lend a hand to my husband and me when we had just moved to Texas. A good friend. Omar and I are very sad, but we know our Lord has a very special place for him in heaven. Our prayers are with Sam and all of you.
Sam you are really going to be missed. The 15 years I had the privilege of working beside you were the best years of my working career. You were a true friend and mentor to me. There will never be anyone that will be able to fill your shoes in this world. You will always be remembered.
Condolences to Mrs. Longoria and Family. Mr. Sam Longoria was a manager, teacher, and a friend to me for 22 years at University of Houston. I’ll miss his calls and our conversations.
Mrs. Longoria and family – My sincere condolences. I am sorry that I will not be able to extend my condolences to you in person. I had the privilege of working with Sam previously at UH for many years. His “problem solving” approach to all issues, large and small, was inspirational to those around him. Additionally, his network of contacts was extensive and he always seemed to “know a guy” perfect for whatever the issue. Most importantly, Sam was truly a good and honorable man. He will be missed, but rest assured his legacy will live on.
My deepest condolences to the Longoria family. Sam was my customer for 17 years during his tenure at U of H, and I always have enjoyed working with him. He will be deeply missed.
