Sandra Joyce Nelson

Sandra Joyce Nelson, of League City, passed away on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 in Houston, Texas at the age of 72. She was born on August 13, 1945 in Kansas City, Missouri to Samuel and Dolores Walker.

In 1953 their Dad built the house she would have remembered the most in Hickman Mills, Missouri, a suburb of Kansas City. Their Dad was an avid duck hunter and, one day, took Sandy to select her own puppy; a Chesapeake Bay Retriever. Sandy’s puppy, she named him “Sarge”, was trained as a show dog and won a number of first place ribbons. After a couple of years, Sarge succumbed to some unknown disease. He was soon replaced with a dachshund she named “Topsie”. Sandy always loved dogs.

The house in Hickman Mills had a full basement and Sandy would often reminisce about her brothers and neighborhood kids roller skating in the basement, playing baseball, volley ball and badminton in the backyard and the “spook house” the kids assembled in the basement for Halloween.

In 1960 the family moved to Knoxville, Illinois where Sandy finished High School. Less than a year after she graduated, her Mother passed away. Sandy and her father, soon after, moved back to Kansas City, then on to Saint Paul, Minnesota, and eventually, to Houston.

Sandra was preceded in death by her parents Samuel and Dolores. She is survived by her loving husband Oscar, son Oscar William Nelson, brothers Samuel J. Walker and wife Yvonne, and Stephen J. Walker and wife Theresa
and many other loving family and friends.

The Family will receive friends on Monday, April 30, 2018 from 6-9:00pm at Crowder Funeral Home, 1645 East Main, League City, Texas 77573. A Funeral Ceremony will follow on Tuesday at 11:30am at Calvary Chapel, 3700 FM 528 Rd, Friendswood, TX 77546. Interment will take place at Grace Memorial Park Cemetery in Hitchcock, Texas.
