Sally Joyce Birkhold Schreiber

Sally Joyce Birkhold Schreiber, 90, of Dickinson, Texas, was called by her Creator to come home on the morning of March 13, 2025. She passed away at home, in a room filled with love, light and flowers.

Sally lived her life as if it was one continuous adventure, finding a reason to celebrate each new day. She was born in Piqua, Ohio on July 31, 1934 to Margaret Minnich Birkhold and Paul Birkhold, both of whom preceded her in death.

Sally worked as a very proud civil servant at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, for General Edwin Rawlings, then for Commissioner Robert Ball of the Social Security Administration at its headquarters in Baltimore, Maryland. She retired from her position with Social Security’s office in Galveston in 1999.

Following her retirement, she spent her time enjoying her family, her puppies, writing, artwork, gardening, cheering on “her” Rockets, making friends, spreading happiness and turning each day into a party. Sally has been described as having “mood swings, from happiness to euphoria” and was often referred to as “Sally Sunshine.” The name could not have been more fitting. She surely spread joy everywhere she went.

Sally is survived by her brother and sister-in-law Sheldon and Karen Birkhold, of Minneapolis. Minnesota, daughter and son-in-law Stacy Schreiber Lopez and Roy (Chris) Lopez of Dickinson, son, Scott Schreiber of La Marque, grandson Robert Lopez and his wife, Magdalena (Maggie) of Lake Jackson, granddaughter Melody Lopez and her husband, Bert Traver of Saigon/Ho Chi Mihn City, Vietnam, great grandchildren Ethan Gonzalez, Crystofer Gonzalez, Maximus (Max) Lopez and Destiny Lopez, as well as very special and cherished nieces and nephews. She loved you all to the depths of her soul.

Sally’s family would like to express our eternal gratitude to Faith Community Hospice and especially Theresa Rowe, Janice Lowe, Priscilla Hooltea, Doris Varner-Bennett and Chaplain Paul Sutherland. Without the love, kindness and never-ending support of these angels, we would not have been able to keep our promise.

Memorial donations may be given in honor of Sally to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org) to support research that will one day eliminate the terrible disease that may have stolen her memories but could never take her beautiful spirit.

A get-together (dare we say “party”?) is being planned for a later date to bring those she loved together to talk, reminisce, laugh and maybe even sing a little, but most of all, to celebrate Sally’s remarkable life. Details will be provided as plans come together.
