Robert Arthur Baumann

Robert Arthur Baumann (Bob), 89, passed from this life to heaven on December 22, 2024. He will always be remembered for his love and dedication to his family. He raised 3 families with his wife, Georgia.

Bob was born on July 6, 1935 to Lillian and Alfred Baumann in Floral Park, Nassau County, N.Y.  He had a happy life with brother Alan and sister Jane and enjoyed playing baseball. He had a paper route and would stop at the soda fountain every day to have a chocolate milk shake. His mother, Lilly, would make him a chocolate cake every day. His 3 passions in life were: Baseball (Yankees or Astros), Camping and Chocolate ice cream.

Bob excelled at school and in 1953 attended the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA. He met his wife, Georgia Mae Burks there, where they sat in class alphabetically! Bob graduated in 1957 with a degree in Business, attended ROTC training and was President of the SAE Fraternity. He married Georgia the day after graduation and they moved to Fort Sills Army Base in Lawton, OK to attend boot camp. He was deployed to Korea as an Army Captain of Artillery to keep the peace. He received a certificate of Achievement in 1965 for meritorious service for his infantry division. He remained in Army reserves until 1968.

Upon returning from Korea in 1959, Bob began his career in Retail. He started as a Buyer for Abraham Strauss Co. and held many positions including Merchandise Mgr., Store Mgr., District Mgr., Area Mgr. for stores: Gertz, Miller, Rhoades, Joskes, Gold Circle and Family Dollar, where he and a partner owned 150 stores. Bob and his family moved from New York to Massachusetts, Ohio, Texas, Virginia and Alabama for work. His employees always commented that Bob treated people with respect and kindness.

Bob is survived by his wife of 66 years, Georgia, his daughter, Susan Lee Beem (husband, Rodney), his son, Leigh Arthur Baumann (wife, Janice) and his daughter, Deborah Ann Gamble.

Bob’s 6 grandchildren are: Kyle Baumann, Jenna Levy Beem, Alex Beem, Shelby Beem, Amber Barrett, Elizabeth Mosure.

Bob’s 9 great-grandchildren are: William Beem, Owen Baumann, Mason Levy, Cheyenne, Avery, Mason and Brantley Mosure, Bobby and Hope Barrett.

Bob has left a legacy of hard work, determination and kindness. He will be greatly missed.
