Richard Lee Hasserd, Sr.
Richard Lee Hasserd, Sr., of Texas City passed away on Monday, November 25, 2024 in Waller, Texas. He recently celebrated his 98th Birthday with his children. He was born in Galveston to Frank and Thelma Hasserd on November 2, 1926. He was the oldest of four siblings.
Richard met the love of his life, Edna and they celebrated 65 years of marriage. She preceded him in death in 2016. Richard and Edna traveled all over the United States with family and friends and took trips to Europe to see Rome, England and Switzerland to name a couple. They were devoted long-time members of St. Mary’s of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church in Texas City.
Richard retired from Union Carbide in Texas City in 1985. He loved to go fishing, deer hunting and in his earlier years owned a shrimp boat which he took to Moses Lake. While living with his daughter, Pat Schneider, for nine year, he enjoyed many home-cooked meals and watching the Houston Astros play while eating his popcorn. He loved to go on gambling trips with his younger sister, Dee-Dee.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Edna, brother Frank “Boo” Hasserd, sister Gloria Applewhite, son-in-law Roy Schneider and daughter-in-law Robin Hasserd.
He leaves behind his six children: Cecilia (Kenny) Patterson, Pat Schneider, Ricky Hasserd, Kenny (Teresa) Hasserd, Theresa Hodges and Laura (John) Pinto, his grandchildren: Brent, Tava, Carmon, Carter, Reagan, Rhett, Selena, Cecily, Scott, Sara, Stephanie and Austin, great-grandchildren: Avery, Jacob, Skylar, Miles, Joel, Mayla, James, Sophie and Wesley and sister Dee (Louis) DeWolfe.

The family welcomes friends and loved ones at the James Crowder Funeral Home in La Marque on Sunday, December 1, 2024 from 5:00pm-8:00pm with a Vigil at 7:00pm. Services will be at 11:00am on Monday, December 2, 2024 at St. Mary’s of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church in Texas City with Father Ben Smaistrla officiating. Burial will follow at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery in Hitchcock, Texas.
Pallbearers will be Austin Pinto, Carter Schneider, Robert Hasserd, Larry Marsh, Don McClellan and Dan Mattiace.
