Richard Harvey Sutton

On Friday, Aug. 2nd, a dedicated member of the FUMC Dickinson congregation, Richard Harvey Sutton, suffered a devastating heart attack at his home. An impressive force of a person, Richard’s physical presence and warm personality made an instant impression on everyone who crossed his path. It was Richard’s love for his family, his girls, and passion for his community that stayed with you long after.

Surrounded with immense love and guided by his steadfast faith, the physical chapter of Richard’s legacy ended peacefully in the care of The Heart Hospital at HCA Clear Lake early this Thursday morning.

His wife of 48 years, Karen Kaye Sutton, and daughters, Emily Sutton Arbuckle and Kate Sutton Shimek, will honor Richard’s life at the church (FUMC Dickinson) this Saturday, August 10th at 1:00pm. The service will be immediately followed by a Celebration of Life reception from 2:30PM – 4:30PM at Sundance Grille in Kemah (800 Mariners Drive).

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations of any type be made to M.I. Lewis Service Center or to the First United Methodist Church in Richard’s honor.

  2. Deepest Sympathies to Karen Sutton, Richard’s family and friends. I remember meeting Richard back in the minor league days when his father Harvey sponsored the Mainland Tire Mustangs, team my father coached after Ralph Bernsen. Mr. Sutton would always have a get together for the team at their house, Leo’s and more especially after winning the national minor league championship. Richard was a lot a like his father in many ways, taking care of the community via many organizations. Our family always took our business to Mainland Tire especially for spin wheel balancing, buying tires. My father bought a new car every year, but would always love to visit Richard first at the Galveston Car Dealerships to make a a deal. Richard always took care of my father, made him feel like a winner in the deal making. I played with Richard on the LMHS Cougar football team, was a very good quarterback. RIP Richard Sutton !!!!

  3. Richard and I were childhood friends. Sunday night with our parents playing cards we played games and watched Disney on TV. It’s a shock to see his obituary in the news as vibrant a person he was. You will be missed

  7. My deepest sympathies to Richard’s family. While we were not close friends growing up, I lived around the corner from the Sutton’s in Twelve Oaks and I have good memories of Richard. I wish the family healing through God’s comfort and shared memories.
