Richard “Dick” Thomas Daugird

Richard “Dick” Thomas Daugird, 74, of Friendswood, TX passed away at his home in Galveston on August 16, 2021 surrounded by his loving family.  Dick was born to Tom and Dolly Daugird on October 21, 1946 in Chicago, IL.  He has been a longtime resident of Friendswood where he has served as an Insurance Agent with State Farm for over 53 years. Dick enjoyed the business, cared for the people, and loved working for “The Farm.”  Not only did Dick’s size make him a man among men; his heart made him unforgettable.  His unquestionable character showed in all aspects of his life. His slogan for the office was, “Insurance is not a business, it’s a community service.”

Dick’s community service shone brightly as he and his wife of 54 years, Horacene, founded The Lighthouse Charity Team.

Dick always had a welcome smile, a firm handshake, and an ear to listen to others.  He never met a stranger, just someone who was not a friend yet.

Mr. Daugird is preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Dolly Daugird.  Dick is survived by his loving wife Horacene Daugird; daughter Darla Winters and her husband Todd; sons Richard Daugird and Robert Daugird and his wife Tracy; sister Diane Daugird; three grandchildren Matthew Daugird, Wade Winters and Walker Winters; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Fair winds and following seas to our own “Lighthouse Keeper,” Dick Daugird.

There will be a visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Crowder Funeral Home 2422 E Broadway St Pearland, TX 77581 on Thursday August 19, 2021.  A funeral Mass will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday August 20, 2021 at Mary Queen Catholic Church in Friendswood with burial to follow at Forest Park East Cemetery.  Pallbearers serving will be Robert Gaspard, Rickie Reyes, Larry Holdorff, Jeff Gibson, Michael Buoy and Wayne Gary.

In lieu of flowers, please donate memorials to the Lighthouse Charity Team in Dick’s honor.

  45. I first met Dick and Horacene when I was still an Agent in Frisco and the announcement of me becoming the Houston Pearland Sales Leader had been released. They were in DFW repairing their RV and stopped by my office to introduce themselves, extend a future welcome to the area and just have a friendly conversation for an hour or two. I remember thinking to myself “if all the Houston Pearland Agents and spouses are warm, kind people that do so much for their team and community like the Daugird’s my wife and I will have found our true home!” It was an immediate friendship that started between us and one of my favorite parts of the week was having an office visit scheduled with him and his team. There isn’t just one word that can really surmise what kind of individual Dick was but if there was the one that often comes to mind is Inspiring. I was truly Inspired by Dick. I was inspired by his leadership. I was inspired by his positive attitude with all things. I was inspired by his friendship for not only myself but the thousands of peers, neighbors, and loved ones that was fortunate enough to call him a friend. I was inspired, and certainly in awe, of his relentless work ethic. 50+ years in any industry is an incredible accomplishment in itself but I don’t think Dick would really consider himself a founder of the Lighthouse Charity or a successful State Farm agent. To him, I don’t think those were jobs or careers that most considered work. I believe he just really loved people and the relationships he formed over those 50+ years and was the definition of a kind of person that wants others, before himself, to be successful, safe and happy. Because of him each day I am motivated to be better, be selfless, give back more, love deeper, forgive and let things roll off your back, and strive to be an inspiration to someone else as much as he was to me.

  46. Dick was a wonderful man with a huge heart for his community, friends and family. He seemed to be the kind that never met a stranger. Some of my most enjoyable memories in Friendswood was my wife, Susan, and I spending them with Dick, Scott and the rest of the Lighthouse Cooking Team. Many a late night laughing and working hard. Dick always carried a huge smile! He will be missed by many, but he will never be forgotten. He definitely left a footprint in this world. Scott I know you’re reading each of these and I remember your speech at your wedding. Summarized: a man’s true wealth is not measured by his possessions, but by the loved ones that surround him. His friends and family. You said that you were the wealthiest man on earth that day. I’ve never forgotten that and I believe in my heart of hearts there’s so much truth to that and Dick Daugird was one of the wealthiest men I’ve known. Hope Susan met him at the gates and gave him a huge hug! Prayers for everyone! I feel your pain, but on the other side of that pain is sweet memories of joy!

  52. What wonderful memories of the beginning of “The Lighthouse Cooking Team”. At the review meeting after the “MDA” telethon fund raiser we were discussing how to make the next year better. And Dick said “How about if we serve a “little bbq”……Well as they say and now the rest of the story. The Lighthouse Charity Team is a ” God Wink” moment of a truly selfless and caring man. Sweet Lighthouse keeper, we will all miss you……but your profound legacy lives on. May all God’s comfort, strength and love surround Horacene, Darla, Richard,Robert and all his love ones.
How carry on Scott….you were indeed mentored by the best.
