Phyllis & Martin Jenness
Phyllis Jenness was born August 16, 1937 and grew up in Petersburg, Va. She attended college at William and Mary. She continued on with a career at NASA where she won an organizational award and was nick named the “Paper Tiger”. Phyllis then decided to focus on her family, and being a full time Mother which she poured her heart and soul into. Her family was her devotion! She had a great love of animals and a huge heart for her furry babies. Tuesday morning December 11, 2018, our loving Mother and Grandmother passed away peacefully at home at the age of 81. We will miss her beautiful smile and kindness that could light up your heart. She was preceded in death by her husband Martin D. Jenness. She is survived by her son David, her daughter Karen, son- in-law Eric and her grandson Preston.
We will be honoring our Mother and Father in a Celebration of Life on their Anniversary, Feb. 2, 2019 at their favorite spot, Villa Capri on NASA Rd.1 at 3pm.
Martin D. Jenness was born April 12, 1935, in Boise ID. He was a proud Oklahoma Sooner and persued his passion for space with an Aero Space and Engineering degree. He served in the Navy on the USS Oriskany in navigation. He went on to dedicate his love of space to Nasa where he worked in Mission design and flight planning. His Mission design team received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1970 for their work on Apollo 13. Their work was instrumental in bringing the Astronauts home using the gravitational force of the moon. He is remembered by close associates for originating the idea. Martin also worked on many of NASA’s pioneering missions such as International Space program, Gemini, Mercury, Voyager, Mars, Lunar and Space shuttle projects.
Martin was a loving dedicated Father and husband who passed on August 19, 2011 at Clear Lake hospital. His contagious smile and laughing fits and guidance are deeply missed. He loved road trips and had an immense love for the outdoors especially hunting and fishing. His love for animals coupled with our mother’s.
