Payton Jay Abernathy

February 27, 1990 – September 26, 2024

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Payton Jay Abernathy, beloved husband, father, son, brother, nephew, and friend. Payton passed away unexpectedly on September 26, 2024, in Kingwood, Texas, from a tragic fall. Born on February 27, 1990, in Stillwater, Oklahoma, to Patrick Abernathy and Kathy Fitzgerald, Payton faced many hardships early in life, losing his mother when he was just 13 years old. Despite these challenges, he grew into a loving, kind-hearted man known for his incredible generosity and his unwavering dedication to helping others.

Payton earned his bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma State University and went on to build a successful career in roofing, eventually founding his own company, *Dynasty Roofing and Construction*. His skill and drive earned him the reputation of a “roofing god” in sales. Payton’s work ethic, leadership, and passion for his craft left a lasting impact on his team and everyone around him.

He lived in League City, Texas, with his wife, Victoria, and was a devoted father to their daughter, Scarlet, and their son on the way, who will be named Payton in his honor. He cherished his family above all else, finding his greatest joy in their company. Payton is survived by his siblings: Tosha McAuliff of Jenks, OK; Tamara Bynum of Arcadia, OK; and Brandon McDaniel of Humble, TX; as well as his Aunt Kathy Levell and Uncle Dennis Abernathy of Stillwater, OK. He is preceded in death by his mother, Kathy Fitzgerald; grandparents, June and Arless Abernathy.

Payton loved the outdoors and was always up for an adventure. Hiking, exploring, or simply spending time in nature were his favorite pastimes. He overcame a difficult past and transformed his life through strength and resilience. In January, he would have celebrated three years of sobriety—a testament to his determination and love for his family. Payton also shared his life with his loyal dog, Diamond, who loved to accompany him on his adventures.

Known for his dark sense of humor and boundless love, Payton was a health enthusiast, a driven individual, and was deeply spiritual. He expressed gratitude to God every day, and he was a guiding light to all who knew him. He will be forever missed by his family, friends, and the countless lives he touched.

A memorial service to honor Payton’s life will be held on Sunday, October 6, 2024, at 1:00 PM at the Bay Area Club. All who knew and loved him are welcome to attend.

  1. Love you all , I miss him so much. Thank you for mentioning his dark sense of humor, that was the glue that held our bond together. Naming the boy Payton just sent me. That makes my heart so happy, we will all make sure he knows his namesake and how incredibly influential Payton was in such a positive way.
