Patsy S. Davis
Patsy S. Davis, 85, of La Marque, Texas, entered into rest on April, 24, 2020. Born in Hillsboro, Texas, in 1934, she graduated from Angleton High School and joined the workforce soon after. Patsy remained a full-time worker, in primarily administrative positions, until she was 83. After marrying Paul P. Davis, of Jackson, Mississippi, in 1958, they moved to La Marque with their baby daughter, Leann, following completion of his service with the U.S. Navy in Jacksonville, Florida. Patsy worked first at a tin smelting facility before she landed a job at what would become the Gulf Coast Center of Texas, a state nonprofit for the intellectually disabled. During her 46 years with the Center, Patsy became known for her wit, her fashion sense, and her devotion to so many of the people served by the Center. She could often be found giving clients rides or spare change and she always had a cigarette ready if asked. Patsy adapted readily to the many changes at the program, mastering advancing technology and tracking client welfare at the Center’s several local facilities. She was especially fond of her time at The Ranch, a Santa Fe-based property, where she enjoyed watching the antics of livestock and wildlife and seeing the Center’s clients flourish in a rural setting. An adult convert to Catholicism, Patsy joined La Marque’s Queen of Peace church and loved being ministered to by Monsignor Culver and the present parish priest, Father Chacko Puthumayil. In her spare time, Patsy enjoyed travel, journeying to Russia, Mexico, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Europe; her favorite U.S. cities were San Antonio, New York, and New Orleans where she and her daughter made annual Mother’s Day trips for many years. She was also an avid gardener, an award-winning photographer, reader, and could be seen every weekend at estate sales in the company of a devoted friend and, later, caregiver. Patsy is survived by her daughter, Leann Davis Alspaugh (Blanton Alspaugh), of Charlottesville, Virginia. A private service will take place at James Crowder Funeral Home in La Marque. Memorials or donations may be sent to Queen of Peace Catholic Church, La Marque.
I loved Ms. Patsy we worked several years together at GCC we shared laughs and secrets of the days of long ago. She would come in after a weekend wearing her newest piece of antique jewelry she found at an estate sale of some well-known person in Galveston County accompanied by the latest outfit and shoes.
When she stopped working she was missed and now that she is gone my heartaches. I will look forward to the time when our Savior’s Kingdom will come here on earth as it is in heaven and rid the world of sickness and suffering. Psalm 37:9-11
Leann,
Oh how your mom simply adored you! I had the pleasure of working with Patsy beginning in the early 8o’s at Mainland Industries when we worked with Gary Crow. We all were endlessly entertained by your mom – her wit, her sense of humor, her unique outlook on life.
She frequently spoke about you, as you were obviously her pride and joy! She would also tell me about your husband’s award winning musical accomplishments. One thing that would always shine thru is her adoration for you.
I’m sorry you lost your mamma…this loss, is a big one.

Patsy’s tenacity and spunk will forever be remembered.
Into your hands, Gentle Father, we place our prayers for our departed friend, Patsy.
In your mercy, forgive her of her sins, and admit her to your heavenly kingdom,
Where the sorrows and pain of this life are no more,
And the fullness of your joy reigns forever.
Rest in peace Patsy you will be missed.
Leann ,
I am so sorry for your loss. Your mom and I always had a special relationship, I guess because we shared our Catholic faith with each other quite a bit. She spoke of you quite often and of you annual trips. I began work in 1981 at GCC, so I knew her quite a long time and we worked together for many, many years.
I will be praying for you and for you mom
Patsy will remain in my heart and prayers always. She was one of the first persons I met when I started at the Center in 1980, and one of the last persons I hugged when I retired a few years back. She made a difference, she cared, and will always be remembered.
Rest in peace Patsy…love you.
Leann, I am so saddened at the passing of your mother. We met when I started with the Center in 1982 and it was a pleasure to work with Patsy over the many years. She was caring and devoted to the individuals being served. She spoke often of you and was so proud of all yours and your husband’s accomplishments. She looked forward to the many trips you two took and spoke of enjoying these times together so much. As an avid reader Patsy always had a book underway and over the years we enjoyed sharing many new authors and stories back and forth. I’ll miss Patsy and always have fond memories of her.
