Nancy Ayres Milchrist Williams

It is with great sadness we share the passing of Nancy Ayres Milchrist Williams on Sunday, February 2, 2025. Born in Chicago, Illinois on September 19, 1933, she was 91 years old. Nancy was a brave soul who leaves behind a legacy of servant-heartedness as a wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, cook, seamstress, lifeguard, artist, teacher, community volunteer and neighbor, and friend.

After many years in the Chicago area Nancy’s family would settle in Glenview, Illinois and attend church at a local Methodist church. It was at this church Nancy would catch the eye of a young Navy Lieutenant named Wayne Williams. They fell in love and were married on June 8, 1957. They loved and lived in San Diego, CA, Norman, OK, Fort Worth, TX, Houston, TX, and in 1964 would make Alvin, TX their forever home; a place where they would raise their family, work and serve the community and church.

For many years, Nancy’s first priority was as wife and mother where she ran the household, and actively supported her children in their many activities. Having received a Bachelor of Science in Education from George Williams College, and a Master of Science in Future, one of her greatest loves was teaching. She taught at Pacific Beach Junior High School (California) and Monroney Middle School (Oklahoma), at Alvin High School and Alvin Community College. Her subjects of expertise were Physical Health and English. In addition, she was a Carereader to third graders at Passmore Elementary School. She was a prominent fixture with the Girl Scouts of America both locally and in Brazoria County. Nancy volunteered and served her home church, First Presbyterian Church of Alvin, in many roles including moderator for the Women of the Church, Nursery supervisor, Vacation Bible School organizer and teacher, Elder and Cook for many functions. After a stroke in 2015 which left her in a wheelchair, she continued to serve her church by ensuring folks who were homebound would receive bulletins for the upcoming services … always the servant-hearted. She will be forever loved.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas E. and Velma Allen Milchrist; sister Dorothy Spoerhase; nephew Chris Spoerhase; son-in-laws David Zebe and Bill Lewis. Nancy is survived by her husband, Wayne of 67 years; son, David (Anneke), daughters Susan Zebe and Barbara Lewis; grandchildren, Thomas (Kathryn), Geoffrey (Brianna), Samantha, Michael, Robert, Aleatha, and Savanna; great-grandchildren, Evelyn and Elliot. A life well lived.

A memorial service will be at 10:00am on Saturday, February 15, 2025, officiated by Dr. C.O. Magee, at the First Presbyterian Church in Alvin, Texas. Reception to follow the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Nancy M. Williams Scholarship Fund for students who plan to go into the field of education through the AISD Education Foundation. Arrangements are entrusted at the Crowder Funeral Home in La Marque.
