Michael Gary Bolton Sr

Michael Gary Bolton Sr, born May 8, 1946, Galveston, TX, to parents, Bob and Mary Byrd Bolton, passed away Saturday, November 16, 2024 from the effects of Frontal Temporal Dementia.

Gary attended our Lady of Fatima School, was a 1964 graduate of Texas City High School and attended Sam Houston State University.  He retired in 1999 as an electrical leadman from Union Carbide/DOW after 33 years of company service. During his younger years, he coached baseball with his brother, Bobby, 4 years with the minor league team, Bozeman’s Senators, and then 7 years with the major league team, Monterrey House Yankees.  He was passionate about football, loving the University of Texas Longhorns and the Texas City High School Stingarees because he himself was a Sting, playing center #62 for the team.  He attended St. Mary of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church, serving as an altar boy in his youth.

He was predeceased by his parents, Bob and Mary, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Max and Ruth Willard, his brother-in-law, Gary Willard, and sister-in-law, Kay Mottesheard Bolton.  He is survived by his brother, Robert Lee Bolton; wife, Cynthia Willard Bolton, son, Michael Gary Bolton Jr and wife Irma, daughter Stephanie Bolton, and daughter Geny Bolton White and husband, Tim, and brother-in-law, Stephen Willard and wife, BJ.   He is also survived by his grandchildren, Amanda Bolton Appelgate and husband Austin, Marcus, Jadan and Donovan Ross, and Annelise Mendoza, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The family would like to thank his caregivers who were so kind and caring, Lisa Maxwell, Cathy Cantrell Wall, Makenzie DeLaO, and granddaughter, Annelise Mendoza, and thanks to the kindness and support from Spectrum Hospice, Inc. and the loving care from his hospice nurse, Annette Boudreaux.

Memorial donations can be made to the Texas City ISD Foundation for the Future or Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Gary.

Serving as pallbearers are Dennis Byrd, Jeff Johnston, Wayne Maxwell, Duane Pruitt, Donovan Ross, Marcus Ross, Tim White, and Steve Willard.  Honorary pallbearers are Cecil Johnson, and his Fatima school friends, Mike Peveto, Joe Amato, Richard Daigle, Dr. Pat Kearney, and John Bethschieder.

The visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 from 5:00pm-8:00pm at James Crowder Funeral Home, 401 Texas Avenue, La Marque, TX, with a vigil to follow at 7:00pm with Deacon Steve Mistretta officiating.  Funeral service will be at 11:00am, Wednesday, November 20, 2024 at St. Mary of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church, 1604 9th Avenue N, Texas City, TX, with Father Ben Smaistrla officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery, Dickinson, TX.
