Mary McCoy
Mary McCoy, 90, of Houston, TX passed away on August 09, 2021 in Pearland, TX. Mary was born on May 01, 1931 in General Teran, Nuevo Leon, Mexico to Juan and Francisca Espinoza. She has been a resident of Houston since 1950 and was of the Catholic Faith.
Mary was a dignified, honest lady and had a passion for gardening like Michelangelo did for his artwork. Anyone who knew Mary knew she loved her flowers and plants, especially her orchids. Her yard and home could rival the beauty of the best of botanical gardens.
Mary’s early childhood began on a farm in Mission, Texas.
Having no formal education, she was self-taught and had an amazingly diligent work ethic. As a young girl she was capable of handling great responsibilities such as traveling to Mexico to purchase supplies rationed in the United States during the Second World War. As an adolescent, she traveled to Panama and Canada for work opportunities.
Soon after arriving in Houston, Texas in 1950, Mary was employed as a factory worker by Houston Wiper and Mill Supply for about twenty years. Later, Mary was employed as a janitor custodian by The Houston Independent School District for ten years until she began her own housekeeping service. Mary was determined to be an entrepreneur in a male-dominated society. Her reputation for her honest work ethic earned her many well- known clients, one of which, was the former Secretary of State, James Baker.
Mary is preceded in death by her son, Pete Moreno; parents, Juan and Francisca Espinoza; sisters: Katarina Canamar Espinoza and Minerva Bustamante Espinoza; brothers: Americo Espinoza, Pedro Espinoza, and Edelmiro Espinoza.
Mary is survived by daughters: Janie Moreno and Olivia Moreno Luera, husband Joe; sons: Martin Moreno, wife Teresa, Richard Moreno, wife Maripaz and Mike Howard McCoy; brother, Carlos Espinoza; grandchildren: John Moreno, Jamie Moreno, Michelle Torres, Siera Arizpe, Joe Luera, Matthew Luera, Eric Luera, Ivan Moreno, Cristian McCoy, Liberty McCoy; great grandchildren: Elijah Luera, Ethan Luera, Elizabeth Diaz, Yessenia Lopez, Dulce Lopez, Caelynn Moreno, Jaylyn Moreno, Rae Ann Torres, Reagan Torres, Matthew Torres, Luke Arizpe, Noel Arizpe, Sayla Arizpe.
There will be a visitation held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, August 13, 2021 with a rosary to begin at 6 p.m. at Crowder Funeral Home in Pearland, TX. Funeral service will be Saturday, August 14, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Crowder Funeral Home in Pearland, TX. Burial to follow at South Park Cemetery in Pearland.
