Mary Lou Molloy

Mary Lou Molloy of League City, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 in Pearland, Texas, with her two sons by her side.

Mary Lou was incredibly bright and gracious. She loved to entertain and was the consummate hostess; always beautifully curating elaborate table settings and delicious meals for celebrations and holidays. She was not only a dutiful hostess; she presented herself as poised and stylish at all times.

Born on October 22, 1934 in Galveston, Texas to Harold and Lois Duble, she lived almost her entire life in Galveston County. She was a proud graduate of Ursuline Academy of Galveston. She went on to further her education at Sacred Heart Dominican College, St. Joseph’s Department of Nursing, Houston, where she earned her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing. During her time at college she was crowned Queen of the National Convention of the Florist Telegraph Delivery Association at Houston’s iconic Shamrock Hotel. The honor came with a full college scholarship. This served as a testament to the high standards and commitment to excellence that she would become known for in many areas of her life.

In her final year of nursing school, a nun at Saint Joseph’s Hospital introduced her to a handsome law student, Joseph F. Molloy, while he was visiting his father in the hospital. A cup of coffee together in the hospital cafeteria led to an engagement six months later. They were married at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Galveston in November, 1956. Mary Lou and Joe enjoyed a wonderful 55 years of marriage, during which they welcomed 2 sons, 5 granddaughters, and 3 great grandchildren into the world. They became affectionately known as “Grammy and Joe” by their grandchildren.

Mary Lou and Joe settled down for many years in Dickinson, Texas where Joe served as Mayor and Mary Lou happily served as First Lady of Dickinson. Their two sons, Tim and Chris, attended Dickinson High School and Mary Lou and Joe enjoyed cheering on their sons as they played a variety of sports for the Dickinson Gators. Ever the supportive matriarch, she showed up just as enthusiastically several years later to support her granddaughters as they performed and competed. She never missed a chance to show up for her family and celebrate their efforts.

From a young age she excelled as a talented pianist, often playing “Clare de Lune”, a favorite song of her beloved father. As an adult, she developed into an excellent seamstress, delighting in making beautiful hand-smocked dresses for her five granddaughters.

Mary Lou remained a lifelong, devoted Catholic, always supporting and volunteering for parish events and committees. Throughout the years she regularly attended Sunday Mass at True Cross of Dickinson and St. Mary’s Church of League City.

Mary Lou is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years, Judge Joe Molloy, and her parents. She is survived by her sons Dr. Tim Molloy and his wife Desiree and Chris Molloy and his wife Kelly, as well as her beloved brother Harold Duble and his wife Sandra. She is also survived by the following grandchildren: Megan Molloy and her husband Julian McCullough, Meredith Molloy and her husband Jeremy Reith, Mary Katherine Molloy, Madeline Molloy and her partner Ritesh Mantravadi, and Mary Claire Molloy. Her three great grandchildren are Luca, Luella, and Emma. She also leaves many nieces and nephews.
