Mary Estelle Armstrong Simons

Mary Estelle Armstrong Simons passed away on Monday, June 12, 2017.
Born in Milburn, Oklahoma, on August 29, 1939 to David (D.A.) and Vada Rhea Armstrong, Mary graduated from Garland High School at age 16 and studied at University of North Texas, where she met her husband of nearly 60 years, CW Simons.
Mary was a member of First Baptist Church of La Marque since 1990.
Retired from Rust-Ewing Insurance with 20 years of service, Mary was famous for her Texas Apple Pecan Coffee Cake. She loved nothing more than joining her family for dinner at her favorite Mexican food restaurant. She enjoyed the simple things in life, like preparing her kids’ favorite meals, laughing about her grandkids’ escapades, and a Cracker Barrel “blueberry muffin not heated up on a big plate with 10 Promise butters”.
A kind, determined, feisty, quirky, and fiercely private woman, Mary is grieved by CW; children Jack (Lena), Laura (Stephanie), Leigh Ann (Scott), and Craig (Jennifer); brother Billy Armstrong (Linda); sister Joyce McCoy (Wimpy); grandchildren Louis and Emily Qualia, and Rachel, Alexa, and Mitchell Simons; special friends Karen and Dan Shea and Geri and Joe Johnson; her many friends at Rust-Ewing Insurance, her friends at First Baptist Church of La Marque; many dear nieces, nephews, and friends; and her little companion, Mac.
Mary’s friends and family will gather to celebrate her life with a visitation at 9:00 a.m. and service at 10:00 am on Monday, June 19, 2017 at the James Crowder Funeral Home in La Marque with Dr. David Smith officiating and Jerry Esmond assisting.

  2. Mary was a great blessing to me. She was my boss, my mentor, my advisor, but most of all my friend. She taught me how to be a working mother and to do it well. I watched as she and C.W. raised a beautiful family and she watched and guided me as I raised my own. Mary was full of class and sass. She was truly a gift to me. My sincere prayers go up for her loving family. Thank you for sharing her with me.

  3. While I never was honored to meet Mary in person, her daughter Leigh Ann is a remarkable woman and friend and embodies the compassion, character and quick wit that I heard so much a about. You can tell by the amazing young adults that Emily and Louis have become that Mary’s legacy is safely in hand. God bless her and comfort her family.

  4. Mary was an up front person that was a breath of fresh air that taught everyone how life should be. Her clients loved her and miss her taking care of their insurance to this day. She is and has always been missed .

  5. The Simons were the best neighbors you could ever ask for! Yep….in the mid 70’s, between our 2 families, we had kids in almost every grade at Harmony Hills Elementary in San Antonio. Mary and I borrowed and/or shared everything! I remember once when we thought all the kids had the flu simultaneously, and we would tag-team to do errands or school pick-ups! Now I look back and smile at those hectic days remembering at the time how frazzled Mary & I were. Wish I could be there with you now, but know you all are in my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.

  6. CW and family,

I am sorry to hear of your loss, and although the circumstances are sad, I hope you will enjoy the time with family and friends that is provided when our loved ones pass on to the other side.

    Sympathy from your cousin

    J. Lee Simons
