Martha Jo Lewis, a woman of unwavering love and devotion to her family and community, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at the age of 76. Born in Dallas, Texas, on December 18, 1946, Martha was the cherished daughter of William Andrew Marr and Geraldine Childers Marr.
Throughout her life, Martha embodied the essence of a woman who epitomized grace, kindness, and compassion. Her love for her husband, Larry Lewis, whom she married and later lost after over 50 years of marriage, was a testament to her deep capacity for devotion.
As a mother, Martha cherished her daughters, Erin Lee Lewis-Freeman and Leslie Denise Terry. She loved her daughter-in-law Molly Freeman. She reveled in every moment spent with her grandchildren, Sydnee Claire Terry and Sean Patrick Hollis, instilling in them the values of kindness, resilience, and the importance of family bonds.
Martha’s professional career reflected her dedication to serving others. She spent her working years as a legal secretary and at UTMB as a secretary in the microbiology and immunology departments, where her organizational skills and support were highly valued.
Martha’s faith in God shone through her life. She volunteered in multiple roles at multiple churches in her life, and started most mornings in quiet bible study. She used her talented voice in multiple choirs and vocal groups to sing the Lord’s praises.
In her honor, a visitation will be held Saturday, December 9, 2023, from 1:00-2:00 pm, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 pm in the Crowder Funeral Home Chapel, Dickinson, Texas.
