Mark Stephen Clark
Mark Stephen Clark, 64, of Houston, TX passed away Saturday, April 7, 2018. Mark was born June 13, 1953 in Houston, TX to Milton Wesley Clark and Patricia Jean Davis Clark. After graduating from South Houston High School in 1971 and attending the University of Houston, Mark remained in the Houston area where he was owner and operator of Total Body & Paint on Airport Blvd from 1984 until his death. Blessed with three children during his 28 year marriage to Sarah Catherine Maxwell, Mark relished the years spent raising his son and two daughters in Friendswood.
Never a doubt by anyone who knew him, Mark adored his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his son, Stephen Joseph Clark and wife Tamara Lea Evans Clark and their sons and daughter: Bryce Mason Gregory, Lincoln Alexander Clark and Victoria Grace Clark; daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Clark Jewett and husband Jonathan “Jay” Blake Jewett and youngest daughter, Catherine Anne Clark, all of Houston. The second oldest of eight children, Mark is also survived by brothers: Milton Wesley Clark, Jr., Anthony Joseph Clark and Paul Daniel Clark; sisters: Susan Kathleen Clark Meadows, Veronica Anne Clark Portwood and Angela Therese’ Clark along with their respective spouses, children and grandchildren. Mark was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Patrick Timothy Clark along with his previous employer, best man and mentor, I. W. “Bill” Murmer.
Mark was a gifted as well as giving individual. He had the gift of gab and easily engaged his customers and business acquaintances in extended conversation under the flight path of landing planes at Hobby Airport. He loved music and art and was a drummer in local bands during the early days of rock. Painting was a love and hobby for Mark and he gifted his children with his personal works to mark their special occasions. He enjoyed visits to the museum as well as Cirque de Soleil and took every opportunity to share his enjoyment with his children. Finally, books were a frequent gift to each of the children and grandchildren – each with special inscriptions. As a result, he was dubbed “Book Mark” by Lincoln.
Beyond his immediate family, Mark will be missed by a wealth of longtime friends, customers and business peers. For those able to attend Saturday’s service please bring along your favorite pair of sunglasses as well as a “Mark Clark tale” or two to share with others.
Memorial visitation will begin at 3pm on Saturday, April 14, 2018 followed by a memorial service at 4pm in the chapel of Crowder Funeral Home, 2422 Broadway Pearland, TX.
I am very sad to hear about Mark’s passing. My heart is breaking for all of you. I will not be able to attend the services, but I’m sending all my love your way. I’m praying that you find comfort in remembering all the good times you shared with him. I have very fond memories of the “Clark’s” home growing up and I will cherish those memories forever. Peace be with all of you!
I’m shocked and sad to hear about Mark. My prayers are with the family that I know I know will miss him dearly. He was always a kind person and generous with his time for any of his friends.
The one thing I will remember about my brother is his excellence in everything he took on in life! I will never forget his passion for playing the drums, his artistry in acrylic painting was also a gift he had. I will always admire and carry my love for him. No more pain, no more grief, rest in peace dear brother!
Mark was my first cousin; his dad and my mother were brother and sister. We always looked forward to their visits to our grandparents in East Texas. When we would go to Houston a trip to their house was always awaiting us. I love his family and extend my deepest sympathy to them and will be thinking about them on Saturday.
I didn’t know Mark. But, by reading his obituary and Facebook post. I know he was a excellent father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, nephew and a very special friend to many. I pray for your entire family in this difficult time. I know it’s not easy but I am saddened for you all. May our Father comfort you all and wrap his arms around you all and give you peace.
My deepest condolences, Timothy Mann
We are so sorry to hear about Mark’s passing. We just saw Mark two weeks ago to pick up my wife’s car and schedule mine for paint in May. This is just such a shock. Mark has been such a friend over the years with such a talent for making our cars look nice. The care club will miss him terribly as we all depended on him. He never failed to talk about his family fondly and proudly displayed all of you on his wall of fame. Our prayers are with the family and he will be seen again in the twinkling of the eye.God bless your family.
I am a friend of Paul’s and your late brother Patrick. Please accept my condolences to your family. I only met Mark a few times. May he RIP. Prayers to you all.
So sorry to hear about this. I just spoke with Mark on the phone in March when my dad went over to see him at the shop. He was so unique and definitely had the gift of gab…. and a huge heart, as he helped me out many times over the years. He will be greatly missed. My heart goes out to Liz, Katherine and Stephen in this sad time. Praying for you.
I miss you Dad, I’m glad you’re finally at peace and can enjoy the long overdue rest you deserve. You never put yourself first regardless of the circumstances and always made sure others were taken care of.
I wish I had the chance to spend one more day at the shop with you, learning and enjoying the countless hours of banter and arguing. Even now, I just want to hear you laugh and say “I told you so” when I made a mistake. Your fatherly advice was never lost on me and I will pass down everything you taught me to my children.
Lincoln says he misses you and plans to wear his spacesuit when he sees you again.
