Marilyn Sue (Susie) Herzik Hembree

Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Marilyn Sue (Susie) Herzik Hembree, went to be with the Lord on April 6, 2024. She was at home with her children by her side at the time of her passing.

Susie was born on November 18, 1943, in Yoakum, Texas.  She graduated from Schulenburg High School in 1961, where she made many lifelong friends. She attended West Texas A&M University where she met and married her college sweetheart, Roger Melvin Hembree. She and Roger lived and worked in Dumas for 25 years.  She was an active member of the Dumas First United Methodist Church and she was passionate about helping the community as a member of the Dumas City Parks Board.

In 1988, the family moved to Round Rock, Texas, where she was an active member of Bethany United Methodist Church. To be closer to their children and grandchildren, they moved to League City, Texas in 2010.  Susie was a huge supporter of her grandchildren and spent most of her time at their many school activities and sporting events.  She also loved spending time with her many friends at her “Water Lillies” water aerobics group, weekly happy hour group, Welcome Neighbors group, bridge group, and while volunteering at Clear Creek Community Church.

Susie was a huge Texas A&M fan and was always very proud of her three Aggie children and seven Aggie grandchildren.  Susie was a football season ticket holder and greatly enjoyed attending many sporting events and Singing Cadet concerts.

Susie was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Roger; her father E.F. Herzik and step-mother Pauline, her mother Rosalie Hoppe Herzik, and her brother Gene Wayne Herzik.

Susie is survived by their three children and their families.

  • Son Mike Hembree and wife Laurie, and their two daughters, Jessica and Angela;
  • Daughter Cori Kerr and husband Ron, and their three sons – Cameron and wife Cassidy and their two sons, Oliver and George; Jonathan and wife Kacey; and Harrison and fiancé Gracie;
  • Daughter Holly Alfonso and husband Paul, and their three sons – Joey and fiancé Alyssa, Nick, and Matthew

She is also survived by her brother Gary Herzik and his wife Jo Ann.

Susie had a profound faith in our Lord Jesus Christ and was proud of passing that love on to her family.  She always brought joy and love to worship with her wonderful singing voice and echoed that sentiment throughout all aspects of her life. She always put others before herself, especially when it came to her grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given in her name to the Texas A&M Singing Cadets or Clear Creek Community Church.
