Margaret “Maw Maw” Virginia Solito

Margaret “Maw Maw” Virginia Solito peacefully passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2025 at the age of 100. She was born in Houston, TX on August 8, 1924 to the late Gaspare and Josephine Candela.

Living her values of unity, care, love and respect for others, Margaret believed in the “good life” and the importance of sharing it with others.  Her long and full life was defined by her commitment to faith, family and fun.

She was smart, self-motivated and beautiful. Her and her husband Victor settled in Beaumont, TX, where they raised their two daughters. She helped operate several family businesses and faithfully served her church and community.

Margaret faced life with strength, resolve and an uncompromising faith. She maintained a special relationship with God all her life as witnessed by her devotion, service and dedication to prayer.

The way Margaret embraced, welcomed and loved those around her was a genuine expression of her nature. She had an amazing ability to make each person feel special and important. This was especially true as it regarded her family. No sacrifice was too big. If she could do it, she did.

True to her Italian heritage Margaret was also a fantastic cook and hostess. Uniting family and friends together through delicious meals and celebrations was one of her greatest joys.  And guests were sure to leave with leftovers!

She confidently embraced her life with joy and enthusiasm. She loved taking pictures, dancing at weddings and traveling. Nothing was more delightful than watching her laugh.

While Margaret’s memory began to fade, her essence did not. Visited regularly by family, she was well-cared for in her final years. A heart-felt thank you to the staffs of Sunrise and The Delaney for meeting Margaret’s needs with great care, kindness and dignity.

Her influence lives on through her family and we are comforted in knowing she is where she has longed to be.

“To know her is to love her” … and she is loved deeply.  Well done, Maw Maw, well done.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, husband Victor, son-in-law Robert Sheffield, son-in-law Philip White and grandson Steven White.

She is survived by her daughters Frances Sheffield and Josie White; sister Anna Marie D’Armata; grandchildren Brett Sheffield (Angie), Belinda Randall (Bryan), Julie Truman (Michael) and Beth Bass (Billy). As well as her great-grandchildren MargaretAnn Sheffield, Aspen Balbuena (Lauro), Evy Truman, Cali Truman, Cassidy Truman, Mary-Elizabeth Truman, Isaac Bass, Luke Bass and Hannah Bass.

The family will hold a funeral Mass on Friday, March 28, 2025, 10:00am at St. Mary of the Expectation Catholic Church, 1612 East Walker, League City, TX 77573.  Interment will follow at Forest Park Lawndale in Houston.
