Leslie Nelson Imler
Leslie Nelson Imler, of League City, Texas, age 97, went to be with His Lord on December 18, 2018. He was born on a farm near Perry, Iowa on May 2, 1921 to David and Vera Imler. In 1936, the family moved to West Sacramento, California. He graduated from Woodland High School in 1939. World War II was in progress and he went to work for McClellan Air Base until going in to the Army Air Corps Cadet Training in 1943. He was stationed in Primary Training in Pine Bluff, Arkansas where he met the love of his life, Dorothy Floyd from Nashville, Arkansas. They were married in Lubbock, Texas in June 1944. They shared a happy marriage for 67 years. Les received his wings and became a pilot in Lubbock in 1944. He was a member of the 101st Airborne Unit and spent overseas service flying “the hump” in India. He was released from active duty in 1946. He lived in Durant, Oklahoma and Dallas, Texas before being transferred to Houston, Texas in 1955. He was employed by Cameron Iron Works as an inspector for over 30 years. He enjoyed annual trips to California with Dot and Olivia to see his dad and stepmom, Margaret. Once he and Dot retired, they enjoyed many trips in their RV. He loved attending Kim’s activities from basketball games, to choir concerts to events at Harding University. He will be remembered as a hard worker who was always ready to tell a story from the good old days. He enjoyed working on cars from his 1931 Hupmobile to his 1965 red Mustang. He also was a wood-worker and enjoyed building things for friends and family. He was a faithful member of the church of Christ and served as a deacon for many years. While living in Houston, he and Dot made many dear friends as they served with the congregations of Garden Oaks, Northwest, Jersey Village and Memorial churches of Christ. In 2007, Les and Dot moved to League City to be near family and they enjoyed worshiping with the League City church of Christ. Les became a resident of Regent Care Care Center in early 2016 and that is where he passed peacefully. He is preceded in death by his parents, David and Vera; sister, Edna Cole and wife, Dorothy Imler. He is survived by: his devoted daughter, Olivia McKinnis, loving son-in-law, George McKinnis, his granddaughter Kimberley Smith, who was the pride and joy of his life, his “body guard” grandson-in-law, Jason Smith and the lights of his eyes, twin great-grandsons, Rylan and Jacob Smith, all of League City, Texas. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews across the country. Visitation will be on Thursday, December 27 beginning at 10:00am at the Crowder Funeral Home in League City. The memorial service will begin at 11:00. Burial will take place in Nashville, Arkansas on December 28, 2018.
