Lela Mae Eubanks Seaton

Lela Mae Eubanks Seaton, 96, of Friendswood, Texas, passed away August 19, 2020. She was born to parents Neil and Willie Mae Eubanks in Posey, Texas, on November 2, 1923. She was one of eleven children and spent her childhood working and playing with the family on the farm. Over the years, she shared many stories about picking cotton with her siblings.  She fell in love when she was 15 with a fellow student.  RB was handsome, smart, and a charmer.  After graduation, RB served in the Army and Lela’s family moved to East Texas.  On a fall weekend in October 1943, RB went to East Texas to pick up his sweetheart and drive her back to West Texas.  They were married October 11, 1943 by a pastor in Muleshoe, Texas.  The couple immediately moved to Seattle where RB was stationed.  Grandma spoke very fondly of this early adventure they had together away from the extended family.  In 1946, they returned to Lazbuddie to be near family and worked hard together to build a home, establish their own farm, and raise their two daughters, Gayla Roxann and Marquita.  RB and Lela moved to Friendswood, Texas in 1994 to be close to family during retirement.

Lela fell in love with the Lord in her young adult years.  She heard the gospel presented on the radio and gave her heart to the Lord. She began to grow spiritually and searched diligently for a local church.  She became an avid prayer warrior and student of the Word. In addition to loving and providing for her family, she excelled at many things:  she was an accomplished homemaker, gardener, seamstress, crocheter, home chef, and very active in the Muleshoe Assembly of God Church where she taught bible studies for many different groups and put countless hours into the leadership of the Ladies WMs (Women’s Missions).  She was a strong-willed lady who easily took charge of life around her.  She leaves a legacy for being an effective and faithful prayer warrior and a woman who understood and lived out the scripture that challenges us to give with hilarity.  In her later years, she built quite the reputation as the queen of crocheted dishcloths.  She has truly been a blessing to many.

Lela is survived by her daughter, Marquita Seaton Patterson and husband, Charles Jerry Patterson, of Austin, Texas; son-in-law, Donald Wayne Roberts, of Friendswood, Texas; granddaughter, Monica Doniece Roberts, of Houston, Texas; granddaughter, Sheffany Cashelle Roberts, of Soldotna, Alaska; granddaughter, Sharla Kristen Patterson Hallet, and husband, Ted Alan Hallet, of Kerville, Texas, and their children Olivia Grace and Hunter Isaac; grandson, Chad Jerod Patterson, and wife, Marna Sue Snowden Patterson, of Cedar Park, Texas, and their children Charles Jerod, Benjamin Harris, Ethan Matthew, Reagan Daniel, and Sarah Elizabeth; grandson, Kyle Wayne Roberts, and wife, Suzanne Renee Sawka Roberts, of Alvin, Texas, and their children, Kylie McKennah, Kyra Tate, Amarah Sage, Asher Keenan, Teagan Shea, and Tobin Elias. She is also survived by her many beloved grand- and great-grand-doggies—in this family, they count! She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, RB Seaton, daughter Gayla Roxann Seaton Roberts, grandson Derek Wade Roberts, parents Neil and Willie Mae Eubanks, siblings Lloyd Eubanks, Lem Eubanks, JT Eubanks, Essie Eubanks Dalrymple, Bessie Eubanks McKillip, Helen Eubanks Cowart, Hoyt Eubanks, Maxine Eubanks Luna, and two others who died very young; grandparents, and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

We will gather to celebrate her life later this fall and will publish the date as soon as it is set. In lieu of flowers, Lela and family request donations be made to help declare the message of hope to the world.  Some of Lela’s favorite messengers are:

  • Lela’s love was missions. Her grandson, Kyle, and his family work overseas coordinating ministry opportunities for college students serving 2-12 months.  They partner with national believers for many purposes–spreading the gospel, community development, teaching English, rescue centers, and socio-economic development. Lela spent many hours praying over this effort.  Be sure to read the instructions below to properly designate your gift for this fund:
