Laura Jayne (Ehlers) Dickmeyer
The Lord graciously moved Laura Jayne (Ehlers) Dickmeyer to her eternal reward on May 22, 2023, at the age of 67.
Born in 1955, at Bossier City AFB, Louisiana, she quickly became used to moving and seeing much of America; a trend which would mold her life into an appreciation of all that the USA has to offer it’s true patriots. From Louisiana she moved to Missouri, New York City/New York, New Jersey, Kansas, Virginia, Iowa, Montana, North Dakota and Texas; and visited all but two other states in the contiguous USA. She also visited many places in Canada and Spain.
In her lifetime, she attended George C. Marshall High School (with Thespian honors); Graceland College; Park College, Rice University & International School of Gemology (“ISG”).
Laura was also a volunteer for many charitable efforts. As Laura Pickell, she joined the Williston (ND) Jaycee Women; and when (1985) they were incorporated into the (Williston, ND) JAYCEES (men’s) organization, she served on the Board of Directors (and, was its first female Chaplain). In Houston, as Laura Ehlers, she was a member of Big Brothers/Big Sisters (until a torn retina took her out of the program). Her faith in the Lord took her many places in her life, including 2-3 years with Templo Aposenta Alto (Houston), where the Lord used her in mighty ways. She tried to live her faith, and help everyone.
She worked in many positions, including: Entrepreneur (Ehlers Enterprises – Tile Contracting; SparkleBay – Jewelry manufacture & gemstones); Sales (Woolf Brothers; Mary Kay; Advanced Circuit Systems “ACSI”, Fast Fix Jewelry Repair); Production/Inventory Control (King Radio Corp, Simon-Johnson Corp): Production Buyer (O-I Corp, Eltech Enviro Systems “EES”); Procurement/Subcontracts Specialist (Brown & Root/Halliburton/KBR for 23 years); Artist (Photographic Re-Toucher (KC MO); Silk Screen Artist for clothing @ Roughrider Sports (ND), as well as for Circuit Boards @ ACSI); Award-winning & “published” jewelry designer (Beadalon); Christian Poet and writer (privately published); and Photographer (close-up florals, landscapes/scenery, and family portraitures). After Hurricane Harvey’s devastation combined with the COVID-19 lockdowns, she took up custom card making for family and close friends.
Laura is pre-deceased by her mother (Shirley B. (Schneider) Ehlers), her maternal (Walter & Wilda (Currie) Schneider) and paternal (Jesse & Margaret (Gross) Ehlers), grandparents, her ex-husband Thomas D. Pickell, Jr., and many other family & close friends.
Laura is survived by her current husband (of 20 years), John R. Dickmeyer (Bacliff, TX), his son’s Darren and Jeremy and their respective families (in total, 5 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren), as well as John’s extended family in TX & LA. She is also survived by her father, John F. Ehlers (Cambria, CA), and her 3 siblings: Karl F. Ehlers (MO), Lynel (Ehlers) DeRose (FL), and Lisa (Ehlers) Berry (AL) and their respective families.
Laura was buried in Williston, ND, on May 31, 2023. A memorial service about her life will be held at Crowder Funeral Home, 851 FM 517 Rd. W., Dickinson, TX 77539, at 3:00 – 5:00 PM on Saturday, June 10, 2023.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to Lighthouse Christian Ministries, 800 Grand Ave., Bacliff, TX 77518 (director Allison Lueking).
