Ladgie “Max” Krchnak, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 85 on August 15th, 2024 in Pearland, Texas. Born in Sealy, Texas on August 18, 1938, Max was one of ten children, raised in a close-knit family that instilled in him the values of hard work, loyalty, and community.

As a student at the University of Houston, Max met the love of his life, Sandra, at a folk dancing group at their church. What began as a shared passion for dance blossomed into a lifelong partnership that extended into 61 years of marriage. Their bond was a cornerstone of his life, filled with love, laughter, and the joys of raising a family.

Max pursued his passion for mathematics in college, which led him to a 40-year career at NASA. His work in avionics, long-range planning, and computer systems helped advance space exploration during some of its most pivotal years. Max was proud of his contributions to the team efforts, yet he remained humble about their achievements, and he was always eager to share his knowledge and experiences with those around him.

Survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Sandra Krchnak, and his two sons, Scott and Eric Krchnak, Max was a devoted family man whose love and pride for his family were evident. He is also survived by his daughters-in-law, Miyuki and Kumiko Krchnak, and his four grandsons, Joshua Krchnak, Nikolas Krchnak, Ethan Krchnak, and Skyler Krchnak, all of whom brought immense joy to his life.

Max was preceded in death by his siblings, Bertha Krchnak, Joey Krchnak, Lillian Deschains, Elizabeth Clark, Sister Margeta Krchnak, Ann Schauerte, and Adolph Krchnak. He is survived by his sisters, Louise Krchnak and Teresa Jurik, who, along with numerous nieces and nephews, will greatly miss his sense of adventure and entertaining antics.

Max’s dedication extended beyond his professional life. He was an active volunteer, involved in various social and civic organizations. His leadership shone through as the president of the local basketball league for several years, where he created an avenue for young athletes to pursue their passion for the game and expressed his commitment to the community.

A man of many talents, Max also operated a local band that played at parties and weddings, and he managed a small entertainment agency. His love for the arts, especially music and dance, was a lifelong affair. Whether he was performing or enjoying a concert, Max’s appreciation for music was profound, and it brought joy to those around him.

Known for his vibrant personality, Max was a unique character who never met a stranger. His quick wit, coupled with a repertoire of stories and wisdom, made him a natural entertainer. He was a man who lived life large, with a deep love for the back roads and small towns of Texas. Whether traveling or simply sharing a story, Max’s presence was larger than life, leaving a lasting impression on those he met.

Ladgie “Max” Krchnak will be remembered as a colorful and compassionate man who touched many lives with his generosity, humor, and zest for life. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and community, and he will be deeply missed by those who had the privilege of knowing him.

A private celebration of Max’s life will be held with family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his memory to the charity of your choice.
