Kathryn Holmes
Kathryn Holmes, 96 of Friendswood, Texas passed away on November 3, 2024 in League City, Texas. She was born on September 16, 1928 in Beaumont, Texas to George and Myrtie Carter. She graduated from Splendora High School when she was 16 years old, and moved to Houston to work at Ellington Field during the war as a typist and scheduler.
Kathryn met her husband Carlton during this time and they were married in 1952, spending their early years in the Air Force traveling all over the southern United States before settling in Texas City, in 1966. She then spent her time raising three boys, staying active in the local church where she was a member of Highland Baptist Church in La Marque for 57 years. There she served in the visitation ministry for many years, visiting shut ins and those in nursing homes weekly. She always loved flowers and gardening, had a beautiful back yard, and won multiple awards in the Texas City Garden club.
In later years, Kathryn enjoyed traveling internationally and throughout the United States with the Galveston County Baptist Association. Kathryn, fondly known as “Meemaw” or “Meme” by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was the heart of her family who will be remembered for her quiet resilience, deep faith, and love for her family. She was a long-time resident of La Marque before relocating to Friendswood for the last 7 years.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Carlton Holmes and daughter-in-law Rhonda Bright Holmes. Kathryn is survived by her three sons and daughters-in-law; George Edward Holmes, Larry Carlton Holmes and Tresa and Bryan Gilbert Holmes and Kimber, sister Laverne Stephens and her seven grandchildren; Tamara Phillips and Derek, Lauren Niscavits and John, Terra Holmes and Ray LaSoya, Darrell Holmes and Dawn, Ashley Wray and Jason, Nelson Holmes and Simon Holmes and ten great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be on Saturday, November 9, 2024 from 10:00am-11:00am at Highlands Baptist Church in La Marque. Funeral Service will follow at 11:00am with Rev. Jack Thompson officiating. Burial will be at Morgan Cemetery in Cleveland Texas at 3:00pm on Saturday, November 9, 2024.
