Katharyn (Kitty) Freeman Carmine

Katharyn (Kitty) Freeman Carmine, a long-time resident of El Lago, and more recently The Crossings in League City, Texas, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Wednesday, January 29, 2025.

Kitty was born in Washington D.C. on September 30, 1923 to Alice Winton Murray Freeman and Edgar Wells Freeman. She was preceded in death by: her parents; her beloved husband of 60 years, Benjamin Cyrus Carmine Jr.; and daughter Katie Carmine.
She is survived by: her son Benjamin Cyrus Carmine III; daughter Anne Winton McFarlane; daughter-in-law Cindy; son-in-law Ronn; three grandchildren, Thomas Carmine (Sarah), Shannon LeConey (Travis) and Gabriel McFarlane; and four great-grandchildren, John, Luke, and Anna Kate Carmine, and Finley LeConey.

Kitty made her debut in 1942 and was a member of the Junior League of Philadelphia. She was a graduate of the Bryn Mawr School of Nursing and the University of Pennsylvania. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma as well as a lieutenant in the Army Nursing Corps during World War II.

In 1963, Kitty, her husband, Ben, and their young children relocated from the Philadelphia area to Houston where Ben’s company, Philco, helped build and equip NASA’s Mission Control Center.

Kitty was a founding member of St. Thomas the Apostle Episcopal Church in Nassau Bay, Texas, where she taught three-year olds at the St. Thomas Episcopal Day School from 1970-1984. She was also a member of the Daughters of the King and volunteered at the Church’s Nearly New Thrift Shop for decades.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, February 6th, at 2 PM at St. Thomas Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made online at sttaec.org or sent to:
