Joyce Smith, 84, of Texas City, Texas passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at Gulf Healthcare Center in Texas City. She was born December 2, 1929 in Temple, Texas to her Czech descendant parents Albert and Lillie Kachtik.

Joyce worked as a meat wrapper in several local grocery stores, she loved to do crossword puzzles and working in her garden in her younger years. She was a member of St. Mary of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church in Texas City.

She is preceded in death by her husband Dallas Smith, sister, Lillian Beane and brother, William Kachtik.

Joyce is survived by her two daughters Linda Joyce Vandegarde of Katy, TX and Vicki Sue Smith of Houston, TX.; sisters, Doris Affolter, Martha Samohyl and Carolyn Vanza; brother James Kachtik; grandchildren Shawn Inabinett and Jessica Vandegarde.

Visitation will be Thursday, February 13, 2014 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm at the James Crowder Funeral Home in La Marque. Funeral service will be Friday, February 14, 2014 at 2:00pm at the funeral home with Father Gary Rickles officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Dickinson, Texas.
