Joseph Houston Galloway

Joseph Houston Galloway, 78, passed away on December 25, 2024, surrounded by his family. Joe was born on August 29, 1946, to Dorothy Jackson and James Galloway in Houston, Texas.

After graduating from high school, he attended college in California and married his high school sweetheart, Sue. They built a beautiful life together and were married for 58 years.

In 1978, he moved his family to Clear Lake, driven by the desire to create a better future for his children.  After retiring from the postal service, Joe pursued entrepreneurial ventures in real estate and landscaping.

In Clear Lake, Joe became a beloved figure in the community through his work coaching youth baseball. It was a role he deeply enjoyed, allowing him to positively impact young lives while finding purpose in his retirement. He built a life rooted in love, family, and community.

He is survived by his wife Sue and the three children they raised: Trisha Galloway, Rodney Galloway (Jennifer), and Shannon Galloway. He was a proud grandfather to Ryan, Ryleigh, McKinley, Cameron, Adison, and a loving great-grandfather to Blake. Joe is also survived by his brothers Ronnie Galloway, Danny Galloway and Reginald Bell, his sister Yvette Bell and many family members and friends.

Joe will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his generosity, and his unwavering commitment to others. His memory lives on in the lives of those he touched, and he will be dearly missed.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, January 3, 2025 at 11:00 am at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 1500 El Camino Real, Houston, TX 77062.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Michael J. Fox Foundation promoting research and finding a cure for Parkinson’s disease.

“We’ve come a long way together, and you’ve proved your love is true. My life’s been a pleasure, and it’s all because of you. And to me you’ll always be, as sweet as flowers in May. I’ll still love you as I did in yesterday.”

  4. Joe was a good man, a good neighbor, and a good father and husband. Joe and wife Sue were “pioneers” on Flowerwood Drive and our friends for 35 years. Joe spent many hours in his garden, and was a familiar figure in his front yard, watering and caring for his plants. He never said a cross word about anyone. He loved to coach young men and boys on baseball and life. He will be remembered with esteem by many now-grown men that he mentored over the years. Joe turned boys into men.

  6. I’m finding it extremely hard to have to say goodbye to one of my dearest friends. We have been friends since the age of ten or eleven. Joe and I played little league, pony league and high school baseball together. Joe was a pitcher and I was his catcher during all those years of baseball. I was given the honor of standing with Joe as the Best Man when he and Sue were married. I will miss all of those phone conversations we had remembering the old days, which usually last over an hour. To Sue and the family stay strong and know that Joe is Home with our Father, waiting for us.

  10. It is extremely hard to say,so long my friend, until we meet again! Joe Boy, as we called him, and I were in the same homeroom in high school. He,Sue and I went to Los Angeles after high school. I babysat their first born. Not many can say, they have friends from over sixty plus years. So many memories we shared.

Sue you have been that pillow of strength for all of these years, especially when his health started to fail. It was not always easy. We’re praying for your continued strength!

    We will miss you Joe!

  11. Coach Joe was an amazing man. Many wonderful memories sitting in the garage watching him work with my son and countless other young baseball players. His life lessons that were passed along while tossing baseballs will never be forgotten. Our family sends heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Sue and the Galloway family. We are blessed to have known and spent time with Coach Joe.

  12. Our very deepest sympathies to the Galloway family. We were blessed to know Joe. Seeing how much my boy Liam loved baseball, he gave him the fun and interesting book Ray and Me that I read to Liam every night. What a beautiful spirit and may his love of people live in us all.
