John F. Cornwell

John F. Cornwell, 93, passed away peacefully December 6, 2024.  Born August 2, 1931 in Edgar County, Illinois the only child of Earl W. and Verla M. Cornwell.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Helen L. Cornwell, and one of his sons Jeffrey B. Cornwell.  He is survived by son John B. Cornwell and wife Leslie (Norman, OK), grandchildren Benjamin and wife Lauren, great-grandchildren Campbell, Anna, Ben Walker, and Hank (Norman, OK), Katherine (Santa Fe, NM), and Callahan and wife Lauren and great-grandchild Tilly (Oklahoma City, OK) and son Robert E. Cornwell and wife Marilyn, grandchild Travis (Mercer Island, WA) as well as daughter Catherine Hebert and husband Tom [deceased] (League City, TX).

John proudly served in the U.S. Marines from 1950 to 1954 and was a veteran of the Korean War.  After the Marines he graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering from what is now the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth.  Before retiring he worked for Philco/Ford, Lockheed, numerous consulting companies and for 17 years with the Monsanto/Sterling Chemical Companies.

John was a long-time resident of Clear Lake City, having moved his family to the area in 1965. For many years John was active as a Boy Scout leader in both San Diego, CA and in the Clear Lake area where he formed the first boy scout troop in Clear Lake City Troop 848.  He also served on several community organizations as well as coaching Little League baseball and soccer.

John had many friends in the Clear Lake area, was a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church, active in Knights of Columbus and the Carmeliters Senior Group.  John also enjoyed golf as a member of the Men’s Golf Association.  He was involved with computers for most of his working career and was an unofficial “consultant” to many of his friends.

On Monday, December, 16, 2024 John’s family will greet guests from 3:00 pm-4:00 pm followed by a Memorial Service at 4:00 pm at the Crowder Funeral Home, Webster, TX.   The Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at St. Bernadette Catholic Church (15500 El Camino Real, Houston, TX) on  at 10:30 AM.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to help people affected by the floods in North Carolina (Samaritans Purse, P.O.
