Jimmie Frank Harper
Jimmie Frank Harper, of Houston, passed away on Monday, September 30,2024 in Houston Texas at MD Anderson Hospital at the age of 90. He was born on January 2, 1934 in Big Spring, Texas to Jimmie and Tessie Mattingly Harper.
He was a graduate of University of Texas Austin and received a Bachelor degree in Chemical Engineering at the age of 32. He graduated on August 27, 1966 and received the highest salary offer than any other chemical engineer graduating that year. After graduation he received an offer with Shell in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Jimmie moved his wife Gay Nell Harper and their two children Donald F. Harper and Pamela Gay Harper to begin his new employment journey, where they lived for 3 years. In July of 1969 he moved his family to Clear Lake City, Texas for a new job with Celanese Chemical company. It was a very exciting time for the family since Nasa was preparing for the moon walk, and we were able to be apart of that. Jimmie worked in Houston for one year and then transferred his family to Arcadia, California to complete a project he was assigned too. He worked on the project for 1 year and then his family moved back to Clear Lake City. While he was working in Houston he designed and helped build an onsite golf course at Celanese, which he was very proud of. In 1980 he was promoted to maintenance manager and transferred to Corpus Christy, Texas where him and his wife Gay Nell lived until 2000. Jimmie’s passion was playing golf and became quit good at the game. He was very proud of his 3 hole in ones. Jimmie retired at the age of 53 and had the opportunity for him and Gay Nell to travel to many destinations. They decided to move back to Clear Lake in 2000 to be closer to his daughter and family. Jimmie was raised as a Baptist and continued his faith at Sagemont Baptist Church in Houston.
He is preceded in death by his sister Shirley Harper Frohman, his son Donald F. Harper, his father Jimmie F. Harper and his mother Tessie Mattingly Harper.
