Jessica Leigh Smith

Jessica Leigh Smith, 39, passed away on Thursday, May 27th, 2021. Jessica was born on July 15, 1981, in Houston, Texas, to her mother and father, Diana (Dede) George and Charles (Chuck) Smith. Jessica graduated from University of Texas at Austin, with a Bachelor’s degree with honors in Corporate Communications.

To cherish her memories, Jessica leaves behind her parents, Diana George and Chuck Smith; stepfather, Dan Mitchell; sister, Kelly Maddux; brother-in-law, Bryan Maddux, and her precious niece and nephew, Kylar and Brody Maddux. She also leaves behind her aunts and uncles; Suzy George, Laura Wendell, Wayde Wendell, Jenny George, David George, Craig Smith, Scott Smith, Randy Smith, Gigi Smith, and Michael Smith; and numerous loving cousins. She is preceded in death by her four grandparents and loving uncle.

Jessica had a passion for traveling, photography, and helping others. She was a very loving person who would give anything for her loved ones. She went over and beyond to help people. Many friends and family counted on her in their time of need. If you were to ask her, her biggest accomplishment was helping to raise her niece and nephew. She loved them as her own, as they did her.

A private Celebration of Life will be held for Jessica on Saturday, June 5, for family and close friends. Per her wishes, her ashes will be spread in Aransas Bay in Rockport, Texas, her favorite place in the world.

  2. Dede, Chuck, and Kelly, for a brief but impactful part of my life Jessica was one of my very best friends. There is so much of her in little pieces of my life, even now, years later. I wish I could tell her how much I cherish those memories. My heart breaks that I’ll never get the chance. For now I’ll close my eyes and be in the back of Chuck’s boat watching her wake board in Dickinson Bayou (while I tried unsuccessfully to water ski), in her green Beamer dodging a bee that flew in the open window, walking down the pier in Rockport, sitting on the bleachers with her at a swim meet, sitting in her bedroom listening to Sublime. My condolences to all of you, I know the hole left in your hearts is so much bigger than the one left in mine.

  3. Dede, I was so sorry to read this news about your daughter. It seems so wrong for a child to die out of order, like our John did in 2004. God bless you and your family during this time of great loss.

  7. We were saddened by hearing of Jessica’s passing. Jessica’s love for her family, especially for her sister’s nephew and niece was enormous.

Now that we are older we have gain a greater appreciation for the simple gifts of life. The privilege of ruff-housing with her as a toddler, sharing the exhilaration as she raced her sister around the backyard track as a child, and sharing days on the water as she grew brought us joy and invaluable memories. I think I would most like to remember her when she started working for a sports paraphernalia company, She had a sexy sport car (a reflection of that backyard track?), a bright future, and she felt like she was on top of the world. Only the memories remain, but we will cherish them and they will sustain us forever.

    God bless her

  8. We were saddened to hearing the loss of Jessica. She loved her family, especially her sisters’ son and daughter. As we have grown older, we have a greater appreciation of the simple things in life. The joys of rough housing with Jessica as a toddler; catching a frisbee; sharing her exhilaration as she raised her sister around their backyard track; and sharing days on the water as she grew.
How we would like to remember her was when she got the job with the sports paraphernalia company. She had a sexy sports car (reflection of the backyard track?) She was on top of the world!
Only these memories remain, but they will bring us endless joy and sustain us forever.
God bless Jessica. All of our love.

  10. Jessica and I graduated from high school together, but we never really stayed in touch after that. I remember her as someone who was good to her friends and a positive presence. From what I’ve read and observed, it seems she remained that way, and how fortunate we all are for having met her. Please accept my condolences for your loss.
