James Mathews
James Douglas Mathews passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 14, 2021 at his home in San Leon, TX, at the age of 68 years. James “Jim” was born February 24, 1953 to the late James and Margaret (Spyker) Mathews of Cridersville, OH.
He was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He loved to build anything with his own two hands and he loved especially to do any kind of woodworking. James retired in 2009 from Derk Harmsen Construction of Deer Park, TX as their Head Field Superintendent.
James is survived by his son Robert “Bob” Mathews and daughter-in-law Amanda (Young) Mathews of San Leon, TX. Granddaughter: Lillian Young Mathews of Boerne, TX; Sisters: Pamela Edinburgh of VA; Deborah and (husband) Leo Perkins of MT. Nieces: April and (husband) Jeremy Talbott of VA; Tara and (husband) Jon Lynch of MT. Nephew: Nolan Fisher of TX. Great nieces and nephews include: Andrea, Andrew, River, and Hayes.
James is preceded in death by his parents James and Margaret Mathews, his wife Debra (Arrington) Mathews, and his brother Garth Mathews.
Celebration of Life to be held at a future date not yet decided upon.
Two different families have now lived on their property in Buffalo and we still call it, Jim and Debbie’s place. Lots of great memories getting together for meals and time spent around the fire pit. He was a wonderful neighbor and a great friend to Robert.
