James Louis Taylor
Celebrating James Louis Taylor
October 23, 1942 – August 17, 2024
James Louis Taylor, 81, was born in Detroit, Michigan to James Ross Taylor and Nell (Tromeur) Taylor. After completing High School, Jim joined the Air Force at the age of 17 (definitely not wanting to work in an automobile factory!). Instead of seeing the world, as he had envisioned, Jim was assigned to Ellington Air Force Base as an Air Traffic Controller. There, Jim and Jean were introduced by one of Jean’s co-workers at NASA. who was dating Jim’s best Air Force buddy at that time. The rest is history…they were married August 27, 1965. Honorably discharged from the Air Force that same summer, and after their marriage, Jim began pursuing a degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of Houston. During this time, Jim was in the Texas Air National Guard at
Ellington, where he worked part-time. Jim graduated with a degree in Chemical Engineering, and began his career with the Harris Country Pollution Control Department. Jim thoroughly enjoyed his time in the Department, especially the close friends he made there. Jim retired in 2003.
When not at work, Jim especially enjoyed biking, hiking, back-packing, skiing, trout fishing with “the guys”, and also hiking, camping and car trips with Jean, seeing the west and Midwest. At home, usually in the evenings, Jim could be seen biking and was also known around the neighborhood as I‘that grey-haired man on roller-blades.”
Jim had was quite intelligent, had a seemingly inexhaustible memory, and a quirky sense of humor. He loved getting together with friends and family, and was always ready for a party. We will miss him.
Jim is survived by his wife Jean, sister Carol Axtell, and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. A private interment will take place at a later date.
