James “Jim” Hubbard Callahan

James “Jim” Hubbard Callahan, 91, husband, father, Papa and friend, went to meet Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on July 5, 2024.  Jim was born on November 11, 1932, in Willis, Texas in a clapboard house with a dirt floor to Charles Columbus Callahan and Nina Ella Singleton Callahan. He is predeceased by his parents and five siblings. Jim met his wife, Patricia “Pat” in Camp Springs, Maryland and they married in January 1975. Together they raised four children in Maryland and Texas.

At the age of 17 Jim joined the Unites States Navy and retired as a Senior Chief Petty Office in electronics after 20 years of service to our country. Jim was a true “Renaissance Man” having spent the years following the Navy in his own retail and wholesale businesses and real estate company. In 1980 Jim and Pat moved to Pasadena, Texas to own and operate Pasadena Taxi Co., Inc. for over 30 years. They built the company from one vehicle that could barely run into a fleet of over 50 cabs, serving Pasadena and the surrounding Houston area. Jim was a member of the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce and the Pasadena Rotary Club. He earned a private pilot’s license and enjoyed ventures on a 37’ Tayana sailboat. Jim ran the 3-C cattle ranch in Buffalo, Texas sharing hours of hard work and recreation with family and friends. After selling the business and ranch, Jim spent many hours learning and working as a stock options trader. He was a member of Sts. Constantine and Helen Serbian Orthodox Church in Galveston, Texas for over 20 years where he served as a general board member. He “micro-managed” daughters, Lisa and Susan, for several fish fries and was honored with the Hierarchical Gramata of Recognition for services and contributions in May of this year. Jim much enjoyed sharing birthdays and other celebrations with his family, including his eight grandchildren.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of nearly 50 years Patricia “Pat” Dolinger Callahan; son, Mark Callahan (Jackie); daughter Lisa Goodman; daughter Susan Schroeder (Gregory); son John Callahan (Kimmy); grandchildren Mena, Audrey and Ellie Callahan; Trent Spangler and Sophia Goodman; Truit, Charlie and Lucy Callahan; six nieces and nephews; one grandniece and one grandnephew.

In his honor, there will be a visitation on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Crowder Funeral Home in Dickinson, Texas. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 11, 2024 at 10:00am at Sts. Constantine and Helen Serbian Orthodox Church in Galveston, Texas. Interment will follow at 3:00pm at Mt. Zion Cemetery  in Spring, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in his name be made to Sts. Constantine and Helen Serbian Orthodox Church in Galveston, Texas.
