J.B. Hankins

JB Hankins, 91, of Texas City passed away at home on Thursday, February 22, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.  He was born on October 23, 1932, in Smith County, Mississippi to William and Winnie Hankins.

JB was considered a “self-made” man, tirelessly working in any task/occupation to provide for his family, regardless of the challenges he faced.  Most notably during his career, JB was a long-distance truck driver, business owner of a gas station, and in his later years involved in facility operations at AMOCO Federal Credit Union.

He will always be remembered for his witty sayings and experiences that he lovingly shared with family and friends. He was especially known for reminiscing about his younger years in Mississippi such as farming, picking cotton and “running bootleg moonshine.”

JB is preceded in death by his parents; son William “Billy” Ray Hankins; sister Lou Vernia McDade; and brother James L. Hankins.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Reba; two daughters, Tonia Wells and Melissa Cadajas (Arnold); seven grandchildren, Labetha Wells, Hunter Wallen (Marisa), Trevor Murphy, Amy Murphy, Makayla Cadajas, Madison Cadajas and Colt Cadajas; and three great-grandchildren, Lily, Micheal and Andrew, along with numerous other family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, March 3, 1-3 p.m. at the home of Melissa and Arnold Cadajas, 1213 28th Avenue North, Texas City.
