Indu Shekhar Sharma

Indu Shekhar Sharma, 90, of Houston TX passed away surrounded by his loving family on October 14th, 2024. He was born to Murali Lal and Chandravati Sharma in Khurja, India and spent much of his childhood growing up in Kolkata, India. Right from the start, he demonstrated a natural sense of ingenuity and an urge to create. In his youth, he was well known for building ‘modern’ day radios and vibrantly colored fireworks for the entire neighborhood to enjoy.

Indu valued education throughout his life. He pursued his formal studies at Scottish Church College and the Madras Institute of Technology, where he was classmates with the honorable APJ Abdul Kalam, 11 th President of India. Upon graduation, Indu began a professional career in Electrical Engineering. His work took him across various cities in India and to an expat assignment in Munich, Germany. He returned to India for a few idyllic years, living and working in the city of Kalyani, a place where he purchased the family’s first home and that he remembered always with special fondness.

Several years later, with his family’s blessing, Indu ultimately took the courageous next
step to venture off to the United States. Starting over with nothing, he established
himself professionally and lived approximately 30 successful and beautiful years in the
city of Boston MA. After his retirement, he eventually moved south to the warmer
climate of Houston where he spent another 20+ years with equal fulfillment. In both
these communities, Indu built many cherished and lifelong friendships for which he was
profoundly grateful.

Indu loved technology and was always eager to experience the latest computers and
technological gadgets. He also enjoyed fixing, repairing and building things, as
evidenced by his patient and always thorough work on countless home projects. Indu
admired the qualities of humility, hard work, and perseverance. He prioritized these in
his own life and found great inspiration from others who demonstrated such qualities as
well. In his later years, Indu became active in the Hindu Worship Society and his local
Temple, where he quickly became loved by many and admired as an elder statesman.
Above all, Indu believed deeply in the importance of Family. He loved dearly his
devoted wife Seema, to whom he was married for 63 years, and his children Neerja and
Deepak, for whom he would sacrifice anything without pause or consideration. He
showed deep affection for his own parents until his final days, carrying out a religious
ceremony in their remembrance that he had hosted annually and without fail each year
since their passing. Indu’s devotion to family helped build a strong culture of love,
respect and mutual commitment among direct and extended family members alike, a
legacy that will persist across generations.

Indu is survived by his wife, Seema Sharma; daughter Neerja Bhardwaj and husband
Rakesh; son Deepak Sharma and wife Debika; sister Shashi Prabha Shukla; brother
Sarvesh Sharma and wife Meeta; three grandchildren: Isha Bhardwaj, Nikhill Bhardwaj,
and Aria Sharma; and great-grandson Jay Pearse.

There will be a remembrance and celebration of Indu’s remarkable life at 11:00 A.M.
(Central Time) on Friday October 18 th 2024 at Crowder Funeral Home 2422 E.
Broadway St. Pearland, TX 77581. A cremation ceremony will follow the services as his
loved ones bid him their love and well wishes for his next journey.
