Griffin Andrew Powell

Griffin Andrew Powell, 26, a lifelong resident of Pearland, TX passed away on February 15, 2025 in Pearland. He was born to Darla and Troy Powell on April 11, 1998 in Houston, TX.

Griffin is survived by his mother, Darla Powell; father, Troy Powell; sisters, Gillian Powell and Grace Powell; brother, Gavin Powell; daughter, Alysen Powell; half brothers, Austin Davis and Peter Walker; grandparents, Bonnie and Charles Hungate; aunts and uncles, Lana and Brent Bennett, Tracey and Russell Czajkowski; cousins, Morgan Bennett, Meredith Bennett, Joe Shaffer and Anthony Czajkowski; along with many more loving extended family and friends. Griffin was a kind soul who was searching for peace in a challenging world. On the exterior, towering at 6 foot 4 with a “few” tattoos, one would think he was intimidating, but those who were close to him knew his loving heart. His big green eyes and bright smile spoke to his true nature. He was known for his loud and eccentric music taste but had a soft spot for Taylor Swift. Those in his life knew he never had a bigger smile on his face than when he was skating. You could always count on him to be strolling around town on his longboard or playing a mean game of pool. Griffin also had a love of cooking and enjoyed showing off those skills for his family. During his early years, Griffin took great pride in his pizza making skills at Papa Johns. Often showing off his dough-spinning tricks whenever family visited. Along the way, he formed many friendships and embraced the camaraderie that came with the job. Eager for a new opportunity, he eventually set his sights on earning a CDL, determined to explore a different path. Although he soon found that it wasn’t his true calling, until his end he was searching for his life passion.

Griffin was always in search of something more and struggled to find peace. This world stows such burdens that are much too difficult and nuanced to be understood and Griffin carried them deeply. Within this tragedy we may find comfort that he is finally at rest. All his trials and tribulations have been left behind him as he has now found his eternal peace. Griffin was loved by many and his absence will be felt until the very end.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Griffin at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice, to support mental health.

  2. I was Griffin’s high school English teacher when he graduated. He took a picture with me on his graduation day, and since it was a spirit day, we were allowed to wear T-shirts that represented bands that we liked. I happened to have a Pink Floyd shirt. Since I knew Griffin was graduating that day, I wore it because I knew it was one of his favorite bands. His picture remained on my graduation wall in my classroom until I retired last year.
I know that Griffin will be missed by many. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family.

  4. Griffin and my son, Jake, were friends. I remember how engaging and polite Griffin was. He cooked at my house a few times with Jake. They cooked on the grill. Griffin always took a few moments to converse with me when he dropped by.

I’m truly very sorry for your loss. I’ll remember Griffin as someone who was caring and brought joy whenever he was around.

  5. I’m so sorry to hear this about Griff. He was sweet and eccentric in a good way. I’m really, really sad for your, family. I worked with Griff at Pace and other schools in Pearland. I had heard that he was doing well, which made me very happy. He was a sweet and gentle soul.

    My dad passed away today.

Griff reminded me of my father, with his own sense of his world. His own creativity. Enjoyed the time we spent at Pearland. Many blessings to you. And the family. Carla Wills-Brandon
