Gerald (Jerry) Edward Southward

Gerald (Jerry) Edward Southward, 81, a resident of Mission and Houston, Texas, passed from this life on February 12, 2024. He was born on February 5, 1943 in Des Moines, Iowa to parents, Louis E. Barth and Wynona Southward.

Jerry proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He was a member of the Disciples of Christ Church. He played baseball for Grandview College and even went to the JUCO world series one year. Gerald was born in Des Moines, Iowa, raised on the east side, played ball at Des Moines East, got married there, and bought his first house in Waukee. He was a banker with American Federal Savings and Loan, sold insurance for a bit and then had a few different banking roles with Wells Fargo Bank both in West Des Moines, Iowa and in Alvin, Texas. He and his Wife finally retired and became snow birds, They stayed in Mission, Texas in the winter, and then traveled back to Iowa in their motor home for the summers. As a proud Veteran, Jerry is returning home to Des Moines, Iowa to be buried in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 57 years, Joceil Marie (Alexander) Southward; daughter, Annjeanette Smith (Roger); son, Eric Southward (Joanna Zepeda); brothers, Jake Southward (Kathy) and Gene Barth (Carla); grandchildren, Sara Smith and Riley Smith as well as many other family and friends.

In his honor, there will be a visitation on Saturday, February 17, 2024 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm with a short funeral service around 5:30 pm at Crowder Funeral Home in Dickinson, Texas.
