George Roland Harvey
George Roland Harvey left this earth January 6, 2024 where he passed away peacefully in the home he loved. He was a long term resident of Dickinson, Texas and a member of the Shrine of the True Cross parish family. He was born 92 years ago in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada to Arthur and Anne (LaLonde) Harvey. He had five brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his brother Robert in Oxford, Michigan and Raymond in Trinity, Texas. George is also survived by his lifelong partner, Judith Harvey of Dickinson, Texas.
He has three daughters by Maureen (Bishop) Harvey (deceased), Deborah Harvey of Birmingham, Michigan, Erin Kathy Scott of Caseville, Michigan and Carrie Harvey Grossberg of Clawson, Michigan. He has seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren who love and miss him dearly.
George was a veteran of the United States Army. He served as a Sargent in the Korean Conflict in the 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry Division during the war. He became a citizen of the United States at this time where he lived in Detroit, Michigan with his family. He owned several businesses there but left the cold climate in 1977 when he moved to Houston, Texas. He started Merit House Leveling company at that time. Mr. Harvey moved to Dickinson, Texas more than fifteen years ago where he had renovated a home that he dearly loved. He was a staunch Republican and loved his country.
On Friday, January 12 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm a visitation will be held at Crowder Funeral Home of Dickinson, Texas located at 851 Farm to Market 517 Road West. Phone number is 281.337.1515. A mass will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2023 at the Shrine of the True Cross Catholic Church on 517 at 10:00 a.m. He will be buried in the Dickinson City Historical Cemetery located at 467 State Highway 3, Dickinson , Texas. A prayer will be held at the cemetery.
George was a great animal lover and was known to feed Dickinson wildlife such as raccoons and possums, along with a myriad of stray cats and other animals on his home porch! The family request that donations be made to Special Pals, a local no-kill animal shelter in lieu of flowers. The website for Special Pals is www.specialpals.org.
