Florence “Baby” Bergwall Halvorsen went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 4, 2023. Florence was born on February 14, 1929, in Galveston to Charles and Christine Bergwall.

She was a graduate of Ball High, the Galveston Santa Lucia in 1956 and member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 880. Florence worked for Santa Fe RR and American National Insurance. Florence married Rudy Halvorsen on May 18, 1957 at First Lutheran Church in Galveston.  The two then moved to La Marque and raised three children, Clifford, Russell and Christine “Tina”.

Florence was involved with Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, Little League and Zion Lutheran Church activities. Florence and Rudy were members of the Scandinavian Club and folk-dance troupe and they “waltzed” their way across Texas and Norway. Florence’s best times were with her grandchildren teaching them how to bake, arts and crafts, puzzles, sew, knit and play bunco and chickenfoot.

Family includes son Clifford (Shelly), son Russell (Beth) and daughter Tina Brusen. Grandchildren include Morgan and Andrew (Sarah) Halvorsen; Sarah Halvorsen; Michelle, Haley, Kelli and Casey Brusen and Great-Granddaughter Raven Halvorsen.

She held many special people in her life including Sara Ellyn. Florence, since the passing of Rudy in December 2018, had been living and cared for by her daughter and best friend Tina.

The immediate family will hold a graveside service at Galveston Memorial Park on Monday, December 11, 2023, the service given by Pastor Chon Pugh with Memorial Lutheran Church of Texas City. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
