Emela Jane Moon Matthews

Emela Jane Moon Matthews, wife, mom, MeMe, MoMo, daughter, sister and friend, was born on February 25,1929, in Homestead, Florida and went home to be with our Lord and Risen Savior on March 31, 2024 in La Marque, TX. Jane was welcomed home by her parents Ralph Gallagher Moon and Hannah Wagoner Moon, her husband John Newton Matthews, along with her sisters Anna Moon, Myrtle Moon, Mary Williams, Dorothy Jemison, and Nellie Pierce.

Left to remember Jane are her daughters Margaret Matthews Zimmerle (Sam) and Dianne Matthews Alborn. Her grandchildren Ryan Alborn, Kaitlyn Alborn, Thomas Gomez and Marielle Gomez Mascorro (Carlos), along with many nieces and nephews.

Jane loved all types of music from Gospel to Tchaikovsky to Blue Grass and was very artistic. She was an accomplished painter and loved to sew and bake for her daughters and grandchildren. Jane is steadfast in her Christian beliefs and was always ready to go shopping, play Bunco and visit with family. Our home was often the gathering place during the holidays and in the summer with many good memories for our cousins.

Today Jane is flying high, freed from the bondage of Alzheimer’s disease and is now transformed in her new glorified body. Many thanks to the caregivers from Right At Home and Libbies Place in Galveston, Texas. Also, a sincere thank you to Annette with Spectrum Stellis Hospice, without whom we would not have made it through this journey and we will be forever grateful for her help and loving care of Mom.

Jane will be laid to rest in Tallahassee Florida on Friday April 5th, 2024 at 12:00 noon at Culley’s MeadowWood Memorial Park with Pastor Craig Stewart officiating. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Libbie’s Place https://libbies.org/ or the Alzheimer’s Association  https://www.alz.org/
