Elsie Cordani Obituary Elsie Mayes McGaughy Cordani, 87, passed away on Friday, December 4, 2020. Born in Jonesboro, Louisiana to Henry and Geneva Mayes on December 12, 1932. She graduated from Fairview High School in Camden, Arkansas in 1950; soon thereafter, she graduated from the Spencer Business School. While working for the Classifieds Department at the Houston Chronicle, she met and married Howard McGaughy. After he passed away in 1973, she moved back to Houston with her three boys and resumed her job at the Chronicle. She eventually met and married Albert J.Cordani who worked as the Chief of Security for the Chronicle.

She is survived by three sisters: Ruby Williams, Reva Griggs, and Hazel Coker; three sons: James Leigh McGaughy, John Alan McGaughy, and Joseph Kent McGaughy; four stepchildren: Robert McGaughy, Joseph“Skip”Cordani, Mary Aposhian, and James Cordani; and four granddaughters: Terri, Toni, Traci, and Lauren Cordani, along with many nephews and nieces. She will be dearly missed by many.
