Eloy Miguel Martinez, or “Mikey”

Eloy Miguel Martinez, or “Mikey” as he was affectionately known, passed on April 26, 2021. Born April 16, 1969 in Alice, TX, Mikey was a lifelong resident of Brookside Village.

To the residents of Brookside Village and Pearland, Mikey was known as ‘the man on the bike’. He could be spotted every day riding his trusty bicycle, whether it was to work or to just visit family and friends. He always had a wave and a smile for anyone he passed.

Long before his local notoriety, though, Mikey was known to his family as a beloved son, brother, and uncle. For Mikey’s part, his heart was filled to the brim with love for his mother and father, his sisters and brothers, and especially his nieces and nephews. He never missed an opportunity to let you know just how much he loved his family.

To those outside of his family, he was the loyal friend with the big heart who would give you the shirt off of his back. He knew no stranger and would never hesitate to strike up a conversation at every opportunity, no matter who you were.

Mikey’s life was not an easy one. Still, he always had a smile on his face no matter what life threw his way. His faith in the goodness of the Lord never wavered. He wore a crucifix around his neck every day as a reminder of that.

Mikey is preceded in death by his father, Domingo Martinez, Sr.; sister, Lydia Melton; and brother, Domingo Martinez, Jr.

Mikey is survived by his mother, Celia Martinez; birth mother, Maria Elena Sanchez and life partner, Luis Sanchez; sisters: Linda Adair and husband, James; Laura Jones and husband, Brent; Betty Ann Flores and life partner, Eduardo Gonzalez; and, Linda Garza and husband, Jesse; brothers: Martin Martinez; Rudolph Martinez and husband, Matthew Bloebaum; and, Ernesto Flores.

We, the family of Eloy Miguel “Mikey” Martinez, want to give a heartfelt thanks to our extended family and friends that kept us in their thought and prayers. Your visits, calls, contributions and reflections mean so much to us. We are truly blessed to have you all in our lives.

There will be a visitation Friday, April 30, 2021 at 3 p.m. with a service to begin at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Crowder Funeral Home in Pearland, TX.

  5. My heart broke when I was told he passed. Mikey still came by my house often, even years after I was divorced, just to see his neice and nephews, and to always hug me and say how much he loved me. He was always full of love and humor, and always let people know how much he cared. My sincerest condolences to his family and loved ones. He will be remembered always as “Uncle Mike” and Mikey.

  7. We moved out on Hatfield a few years back and Mike would stop by on occasion and tell me stories about the previous residents and the shenanigans they would TW into out here. He was a dry friendly fellow who always had a smile and a quick story for us. He was a fixture out here for sure. We will miss him!

I will always remember the simple summers we enjoyed like swimming at Johnson’s Pool, hanging out and playing games, etc…life was so simple then…I know in my heart Mikeys in heaven where there is perfect peace and unconditional love for eternity.

  14. Wow, where to start….this guy here hung around my house when I was a kid. He was friends with my dad Big Robert. I lost contact with him when my dad passed away….only seeing him one time since. He was cool but would pick on me when I was a kid. Good guy, never forgot him. R.I.P. Mikey

Heartfelt condolences to his family !
