Elizabeth Anne Jensen Nelson

Elizabeth Anne Jensen Nelson went to be with the Lord on July 7, 2022 in League City, TX at the age of 86.

She was born on September 28, 1935, in Waltham, MA to Fredrick and Thelma Jensen. Betty attended Waltham schools and graduated in 1954.  She went on to study nursing at Newton-Wellesley hospital.  She met and married James Nelson in October 1960.  Together with their family, they traveled to Lakehurst, NJ, Virginia Beach, VA, Rota, Spain and Charleston, SC.  Jim retired from the Navy in 1974 and they moved again to Asheville, NC, where she worked at Mission Hospital.  While Jim was in government service, he accepted a position in Alvin, TX and they made League City their home for the past 38 years..

Betty was the longest serving volunteer on the League City EMS and won several awards for her dedicated service. Betty loved all her friends with the Police Department, Fire Department and EMS  like family. She was also known for crocheting afghans, serving in the Lighthouse Fellowship of Friends Church Food Pantry, and working on the Blue Santa Christmas Drive to assist underprivileged families during the holidays. Betty was an active member of Eastern Star, League City Chapter and American Legion Post #554, League City.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Fredrick and Thelma Jensen, Uncles Leonard Dodge, William Dodge and Carl Jensen Sr., Aunt Mildred Jensen and cousins, Carl Jensen, Jr., and Carolyn Jensen.

Betty is survived by her husband of 61 years, James E. Nelson, and their 4 children, Gale Nelson Jones (Gene), Robert S. Nelson (Anne), Jo Anne Nelson Smith (Marty), and Craig F. Nelson (Karen).  Her grandchildren are Candace Nelson, Joshua Forester, Nathaniel Forester, Kristin Smith Wisenbaler (Jim), Kolby Smith and Devanne Elizabeth Jones, her great-grandchild is Kennedy Rose Wisenbaler.

The family would like to gratefully acknowledge the care teams at Clear Lake Houston Methodist, The Crossings Skilled Nursing Unit and the wonderful team at The Delaney for their compassionate and loving care of Betty.

Visitation will be held at Crowder Funeral Home, League City on Wednesday, July 20 from 6pm to 8pm with an Eastern Star Service from 730pm to 8pm. The funeral service will be held at the Lighthouse Fellowship of Friends Church at 10am on Thursday, July 21, 2022 with a private interment at the National Cemetery in Houston, Texas. :.

  1. Mrs. Betty will be forever missed coming into our office telling us all about her kids, grandkids and great grandkids. She always made her presence known and shared stories of her helping others. Our condolences to Jim and the entire family.

  2. Betty will be forever remembered by our family for her kindness, laugh and smile. She was a wonderful lady and like a second Mom to Larry. She is now pain free and resting in eternal peace.

  5. I met Betty in 1984. I was a graduate nurse and nervous. Then Betty walk in and started talking. I also remember thinking. Wow she’s loud.
    Must be a Yankee. She was so sweet and loving to her patient’s. She didn’t miss a beat. We became fast friends which led to EMS. She was so dedicated to her community. She worked tirelessly and never complained. She drove the Box a lot. I don’t remember how well she droveI so, I must have blocked it out. Her POV had
    a sticker on the bumper, it said, My other vehicle is an Ambulance ” or something like that. Betty was a jem, a green emerald. So dedicated in all that she did and made it look so easy. I’m gonna miss my Betty. She will be missed by many. She was so loved,
