Edna Margaret Arnold passed away peacefully at her home in League City, TX, on June 5, 2015. Edna was born June 21, 1918, in Eskridge, KS, to William and Frances Lawrence. She was the third of four children, brother Ivan and sisters Ruby and Zueletta, and she was never afraid of an adventure. After graduating from Eskridge High School in 1936, Edna set out for Fresno, CA, and, eventually, Sacramento, where she found work as a secretary at the Air Service Command, McClellan Field. She fell in love with Kenneth Arnold, and in 1945 she packed again and boarded a train to marry him in Tampa, FL, where his army unit was stationed. When WWII ended, Edna and Ken made their home in Santa Barbara, CA. Together, they were active in their church and extended family life. Edna was famous for her sweet roll coffee cakes and lemon meringue and apple pies. She devoted much of her time and energy to serving others by helping in the church office, arranging flowers for the chancel, working with the mission, peacemaking, and women’s committees, and Christmas International House. She served meals at the Santa Barbara Community Kitchen and Transition House for 15 years. When Ken passed away in 1979, her volunteer activities filled the void. In 2000, Edna again packed and moved, this time to Texas to be near her only child, LeeAnn. She wasted no time finding a new church home, new friends, and familiar ways to be of service. Edna will be missed by her family, LeeAnn and Dick Morris of Taylor Lake Village, TX, granddaughter Ceilidh and great grandson Eli Morris of Ashland, WI, nieces and nephews in California, and the many friends who remember her gentle spirit. Today she is enjoying a reunion with the loved ones who preceded her in death including husband Ken, her parents and siblings, and grandson Tim Morris. A celebration of Edna’s life is planned for June 13 at 10:30 at Webster Presbyterian Church. Remembrances may be made to the church for use by the mission and youth programs.
